Visit to the doctor

I went to see my family doctor Dr. Pliamm today mainly to get new prescriptions for my medications. Everything went OK and she was very happy with the blood work I had done a couple of weeks ago. I will probably switch doctors in the near future. It's too far a trip and I'd like to get a doctor within rolling distance. She gave me a website to go to to help me do that and I could probably use the Yellow Pages website to do that as well. I'll start doing that next week.

Batista not taking time off for injury

It is being reported that Batista has decided not to take time off to recover from his injury. Orton was supposed to get the belt last week but Batista told the WWE that he appreciates everything the WWE has done for him and he wants to stay on the road. So he's keeping the belt. It's a very bad decision on his part particularly with the recent press coverage and concern about the health of the wrestlers. The WWE should not allow this and just pull him off the road but it's the same mindset they've had in the past where they aren't thinking about Batista's health first. When are they going to learn that a guy's spot isn't the most important thing?

Controversial segment on last night's Smackdown special

There's been quite a storm of overreaction to a segment on last night's Smackdown special featuring Big Show vs Rey Misterio Jr. Some folks are lambasting the WWE for exploiting Eddie Guerrero's death. I guess they must think that the WWE should never mention Eddie again. It started out OK with Rey paying tribute to Eddie by coming to the ring in a low rider. Some people didn't like the use of the car during the match. It was there so of course they were going to use it. And Big Show spit on the car. That seemed like an adlib to me. The segment went in the toilet at the end with the Kane & Undertaker runin and then really went overboard into surreal territory when Randy Orton burned up the Undertaker and the car. This was all done to set up an Orton/Undertaker Hell In a Cell match at the next PPV. It was very stupid and was done in a very ham handed way. Typically, some fans have reacted to this segment with righeous indignation. They seem to do this every time the WWE does a borderline offensive segment. I didn't like the segment either but to react to it like it's the worst thing the WWE has ever done is just ridiculous because they've done much worse. You can be sure that the WWE will do something else in the near future to illicit the same reaction. Why does this surprise or shock amyone?

Today's physiotherapy

It was very wet here today but it had stopped raining by the time I went to Lyndhurst for physiotherapy. My wheelchair guy Rich needed me to sign a couple of papers. He said he should be able to let me know in a couple of days when my chair will be ready. Nothing new today in the physio session. I did a lot of leg lifts, standing exercises and walking with the parallel bars. I'm going to see my family doctor tomorrow mainly to get new prescriptions and then back to Lyndhurst for more physiotherapy on Thursday. I have to kieep working at it.

Satoko Shinashi wins Flyweight Championship at Nov. 29 Smackgirl show

Satoko Shinashi won the Flyweight Championship in a unanimous decision over Naoko Ohmuro at the Nov. 29 Smackgirl show at Korakuen Hall. Kickboxer Hisae Watanabe won her match over Yasuko Mogi by TKO. Hisae punched her lights out. Joshi wrestlers Kumiko Maekawa and Fuuka both won their matches. Maekawwa won by unanimous decision over Tara LaRosa and Fuuka won by submission over Emi Kuroda. Apparently, Kuroda is the former AV actress arrested with Chocoball Mukai last March. All matches were scheduled for two five minute rounds unless otherwise noted except for the full contact karate match which was two two minute rounds. Here's the results of the show and a kink to some pics at Bout Review.

LLPW goes comedy route

You might be asking what it takes these days to get any media coverage for a joshi fed. 962 fans turned up at LLPW's Nov. 24 show at Tokyo Budokan to find out. A comedian named Nishiguchi provided most of the entertainment on the show. The wrestling was besides the point. The opener had The Bloody over Hiroyo Muto in 7:58. Then Eiger & Sayuri Okino defeated Harley Saito & Obacchi Iizuka in 11:28. Next came the comedians. Nishiguchi and Toshino are regulars on the Nippon Television Network. They basically had a comedy wrestling match with Nishiguchi as Little Antonio Inoki and Toshino as a girl wrestler. Who won? I dunno. I suppose the audience did if they thought it was funny. I'm not sure it did much for the joshi business or LLPW. The main event also featured the comedians. Dump Matsumoto, ZAP-T & The Scorpion (Nishiguchi) defeated Takako Inoue, Noriyo Tateno & Toshino in 13:28 on a fast three count by everyone's favourite heel ref Shiro Abe. Maybe LLPW should bring back their transvestite wrestlers and put them in a match with the comedians. Well, maybe not.

GIRLS DOOR debut show

A funny thing happened on the way to the GIRLS DOOR debut show at Shinjuku FACE on Nov. 23. Ayumi Kurihara was supposed to team with Ayako Hamada in the main event. Kurihara pulled out the day before the show. She was replaced by a wrestler that I don't recognize. I think she may be one of Kaoru Ito's trainees. There were also a lot more goofy masked wrestlers than I'm used to seeing on the average joshi show. I have an idea who a couple of them might be but it looks like GIRLS DOOR had some difficulty getting some wrestlers to appear for them. The opening match had Mariko Yoshida defeating Ayako Sato in 8:58. Sato is a Kaoru Ito trainee making her re-debut on this show. The next match was a three way match featuring idol wrestlers. The winner gets to sing a song of her choice. Shinohara won over Yokoze & Mayumi Hashiba and proceeded to sing her song. However, it's unlikely that any of them will win any awards for their ring skills. Then Bullfight Sora defeated Megumi Yabushita in 9:50. Next was the ongoing retirement tour of The Bloody & Fang Suzuki. Their opponents were masked wrestlers in housemaid outfits known as the Super Housemaids. I kid you not. I saw a picture of them and considering who was on the show, I suspect it was Kaoru Ito & Tomoko Watanabe under the masks. The Bloody & Fang Suzuki won in 9:48. Kumiko Maekawa defeated another masked wrestler called Do Monar in 1:56 and then proceeded to attack one of the promotion managers with a chair. The main event had Kaoru Ito & Tomoko Watanabe over & Ayako Hamada and her unfortunate partner in 19:20. It looks like a rocky start for GIRLS DOOR. They haven't announced their next show yet.

The WWE pushing lesbian angle

Anyone who watched last week's RAW saw the kiss between Candace Michelle & Victoria. It appears the WWE plans to turn this into an angle. There is a graphic on Candace Michelle's page labelled "The Kiss". Click on it and you get a video of the kiss. They obviously have to push Candace as her Playboy is coming in April but she's really not qualified to do anything physical in the ring. They're going to have to try and keep up any angle they do with her for several months. This could get stale very soon.

Today's physiotherapy

I finally got over to Lyndhurst for physiotherapy. I got there a little late because Wheeltrans scheduled my pickup way too late and the driver was late. They said that I should tell them I want to get there at 3:30 instead of 4PM. So I'm supposed to read their minds and prevent them from being stupid. It's also clear that pre-booking is a waste of time as it seems you have to call them the day before to be sure they actually schedule the ride properly. I was discussiing this with Josh when I was at the hospital and that's what he suggested. They don't seem too swift over there.

So today we worked on some standing up straight, very difficult because my knees don't want to cooperate. We worked with a medicine ball for the first time and walked with the parallel bars again. William seems to think that the K-Walker is too short for me. What else is new? God help you if you're taller than average height in the medical system. Nothing fits. That's why I can't wait to get my new custom made power chair.

My pal Stuart is confined to bed again after getting a sore on his butt. This may have been caused by some difficulties they had with him when he went to Toronto Western yesterday for a CT scan. It seems they don't have portable lifts there and six people had to lift him from his chair to the CT scan bed. Ugh! You have to be very careful about your butt when confined to a wheelchair. People wonder why I'm always moving around in the chair. I'm trying to relieve pressure on my butt because if you have a problem, you could be bed ridden for weeks. That's not happening to me. Stuart says he's being discharged on Tuesday and will stay in a nursing home until his house is ready in February. The problem is he won't get proper care in a nursing home and Stuart still needs daily physiotherapy. I'll see if he's still there when I return to the hospital on Tuesday.

It looks like we got the rest of that snowstorm today. The traffic was pretty bad on the way home. It doesn't look too bad from the tenth floor but I may have a different opinion after I go outside tomorrow morning. But I don't expect to get stuck in the snow.

Final IW*GP show at Shinjuku FACE

The IW*GP tour returned to Tokyo's Shinjuku FACE for their final show of the tour. The opener was a handicap match with Asian Cougar vs Nattie Neidhart & Nikki T from California. The girls were the heels and Asian Cougar won over Nattie with a diving Senton. Then Ariel defeated LuFisto with three consecutive brain busters. Hometown favourites Jaguar Yokota & Dvil Masami were next vs Dark Angel & Nikki Roxx. Both have a lot of experience with the LLF in Mexico and I think Mikki holds the LLF International title. Angel & Nikki try to double team Jaguar but Devil's strength takes over and her power bomb finishes of Nikki Roxx. Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Plata & Amazing Kong defeated NOZAWA, MASADA & Amapola in 16:28 with Amazing Kong over Amapola & MASADA with the Amazing Press. Finally, El Gran Hamada, Aja Kong & Rebecca Knox defeated Brazo de Platina, Marcela & Rey Extreme; Aja over Marcela with a brain buster in 13:53. That's the end of this tour. There's been no indication that Shinma will do another one. The one wrestler who got really good reviews on the tour was Rebecca Knox. It's always difficult when the promoter is bringing different wrestlers in and out and a lot of them don't have the time to get to know each other.

Review of Tiger Jeet Singh Documentary

Last night I watched the documentary Tiger on CBC Newsworld. The film follows veteran wrestler Tiger Jeet Singh on a 2004 tour of Japan and tells his life story as well. At 60 years of age, Tiger Jeet Singh is still causing havoc and selling out shows in the rings of Japan.

His wrestling career started in the office of legendary Toronto wrestling promoter Frank Tunney. Tiger left the slumping wrestling business in the mid-60s but when business picked up, Tunney wanted him back. Clips are shown of Tiger Jeet Singh's 1971 cage match with The Sheik.

Then a funny thing happened. Tiger became a much bigger and more memorable star in Japan than he ever could have become here. It all started when Tiger slapped Antonio Inoki's wife after she insulted the way he dressed and the fued between Tiger & Inoki took off from there. They also showed clips from a 1990 tag team match where Tiger Jeet Singh teamed up with Antonio Inoki.

Meanwhile his wife was at home raising their children and built a business empire that started with a gift shop on Bloor St. West in Toronto and grew from there.

Tiger Jeet Singh is still going strong today. Clips were shown of a 2004 match of Tiger Jeet Singh vs Naoya Ogawa at a Nagoya, Japan Hustle show. Tiger is in tremendous shape for his age. His wife said Tiger has tried to retire but enjoys performing too much. Footage is also shown of Tiger Jeet Singh on the streets of Tokyo with his son (known as Tiger Ali Singh in the WWF), training and psyching himself up for the match and his unorthodox ring entrance. This is interspersed with from Tiger Jeet Singh's 60th birthday party.

The film includes comments from Tiger Jeet Singh's family, pro wrestling journalists Greg Oliver, Dan Lovransky & JImmy Suzuki and wrestlers George King, Steve Corino & Dan Bobish. Tiger is a must see film for any wrestling fan and a lot of those fans have probably never heard of Tiger Jeet Singh. He may be crazy in the ring but Tiger Jeet Singh comes across as a very humble man outside the ring.

Liberal MP wants to prevent 50 Cent from entering Canada

The following is courtesy of CBC Toronto. I'm not a rap fan or a 50 Cent fan but I hate it when our government idiots try to do things like this. It makes us look like hicks.

Ban 50 Cent, Liberal MP says
Last updated Nov 23 2005 12:29 PM EST CBC News
A Toronto-area member of Parliament is calling on his own government to block the American rap singer 50 Cent from entering Canada.
U.S. rapper 50 Cent (AP file photo) On Tuesday, Liberal MP Dan McTeague (Pickering-Scarborough East) asked Immigration Minister Joe Volpe to deny the singer entry for a Canadian tour scheduled to launch in Vancouver Dec. 3.
McTeague says 50 Cent promotes gun violence, a message he feels Torontonians in particular don't need to hear. A record 48 people have been shot to death in the city so far this year.
50 Cent, who was born Curtis Jackson in Queen's, N.Y., has a criminal record and would need a ministerial permit to enter Canada.
"I don't think people in Toronto or any urban centre need or want to hear Mr. Jackson's message right now," McTeague said. "I think it's time we send a message of our own to those who glorify violence that their gratuitous violence and movies are not welcome in our country.
"We need to do a better job at protecting Canadians from people whose message runs counter to all of our efforts of trying to curb gun violence."
Volpe's spokesperson said permits allowing those with criminal records to enter Canada are issued regularly.
"It's permission that's granted typically about 12,000 times a year," Steven Heckbert told the Canadian Press.
"Whether the minister or departmental officials make a decision about intervening or not, it's really not appropriate for us to be talking about it in a public forum," he said.
50 Cent's tour is scheduled to stop in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Saint John.

One of those days

Everything went wrong today. I couldn't get a ride to the hospital from Wheeltrans so I had to cancel physiotherapy. Then I'm trying to call Wheeltrans to cancel my return trip and my phone runs out of juice. Then the fire alarm in the building is set off. It was a false alarm. It's not like I could go anywhere anyway because the elevators shut down when the alarm goes off. I'm not sure what they would do if I had to leave the building.

I was at Lyndhurst today to see my doctor over there. Nothing much to it. Dr. Oshidari asked a few questions and that was about it. The WWE institutes drug policy

The following is courtesy of PW Insider. If this is legit, this is long overdue. For those who don't know, Nick Dinsmore AKA Eugene was found unconscious last week in Birmingham, England, went to hospital, was suspended indefinitely and sent home to Louisville, KY to rehab. He was apparently addicted to somas.

In a video posted on WWE.com today, they showed a clip from the the meeting that Vince had earlier today with his wrestlers, telling them about the company's new drug policy. He said he wanted them to hear it from him first, before it leaked out elsewhere. He said that the policy would be implemented over the next few weeks. He said that they will be testing for "drugs of abuse" and abuse of prescription drugs, as well as growth enhancers and steroids. He said it will be a strict policy that will be handled by a third party agency, not done in-house by WWE. He added that it will cover all individuals under full time contracts with WWE. He asked for comments from the wrestlers and no one said a word. He said that there must be a million things going through their heads and there was laughter. He then said he doesn't have all the answers yet. He said that WWE was looking into implementing the program and wanted to tell the talent before word got out and they heard about it elsewhere. He said he doesn't have the policy with him but will have it in a few weeks. He asked the wrestlers for their input in it since it will be their policy. Someone (it sounded like Ric Flair) asked about the prescription drug usage. Vince said that the doctor would be able to check what prescriptions the wrestler is taking and by testing, would be able to tell if they were being abused. He said it was easy to see when too much of a drug has been taken. He added that the first step, if someone is caught abusing prescription drugs, would be to try and get the worker help. He said if there were not prescriptions involved in a failed test, he thought that would bring on "another set of ramifications". He added that the policy will be fair and "across the board for everybody". He added there would be no exceptions to it. He was asked if the testing would be random and Vince said yes. He said it would be "relatively frequent". He talked about the last testing they had (back in the early 90s) and said that the difference this time is that he will be the second person to know. The first people will be the tester and the performer. Vince added that people won't be able to say "Yeah Vince but...." if they are caught. Everything will be spelled out in black and white in the policy as to what will happen if someone tests positive. Someone then thanked Vince for telling them personally.

Stewart wins 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup championship

Tony Stewart knew that he had to finish in the top ten of today's NASCAR Nextel Cup finale at Homestead Miami Speedway to stay ahead of Jimmie Johnson, his closest competitor for the 2005 Nextel Cup championship. Carl Edwards in the #99 Office Depot Ford won the pole and was a potential threat at third place in the standings. The situation changed halfway through the race when Johnson blew a tire and hit the wall. He ended up in 40th place. So now Stewart has to finish in 20th place to win the championship no matter what Edwards does and Edwards was leading the race at that time. A late race caution sealed Edwards' fate as he took four tires on his pit stop when most of the leaders only took two. Edwards restarted in 12th place. The caution also clinched the championship for Stewart as he was dropping back and was going to be lapped. He restarted in 15th place on the lead lap. The finish had Greg Biffle in the #16 National Guard Ford winning the race over Mark Martin in the #6 Viagra Ford by half a car length. Edwards finished fourth and Biffle & Edwards tied for second in the points standings. The 2005 Nextel Cup championship is Tony Stewart's second title win. Congratulations to Tony Stewart, crew chief Greg Zipadelli, Joe Gibbs, JD Gibbs and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing & sponsor Home Depot. Tony Stewart, you are da man. 2005 was a great year and we'll see you at Daytona in February.

Truex wins 2005 NASCAR Busch Series championship

Staurday wasn't looking like a very good day for Martin Truex Jr. to clinch his second NASCAR Busch Series championship. First, Truex crashed his #8 Bass Bro Shops Chevy on his qualifying run and had to start in the back of the field in a backup car. Then after coming up through the field early in the race, Truex had to make an unscheduled pit stop for loose lug nuts. This put him a lap down. Fortunately, Truex's luck took a turn for the better. He got his lap back and was able to finish in the top ten, which is what he needed to do to win the championship. If his bad luck had continued, Clint Bowyer could have won the championship in the #2 AC Delco Chevy as he finished in the top ten. But Truex perservered and won the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series championship. Congratulations. The race was won by pole sitter Ryan Newman in the #39 Alltel Dodge. He passed Greg Biffle in the #66 Royal Office Products Ford on the last restart to win the race.

Musgrave wins 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck championship

Veteran racer Ted Musgrave won the 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck championship this morning at Homestead Miami Speedway. The race was rained out last night and was held at 8:30AM this morning. David Reutimann in the #17 NTN Bearings Toyota owned by Darrell Waltrip won the pole but transmission problems had him drop out of the race early. Todd Bodine continued his hot streak in the #30 Germain Toyota owned by Don Arnold. He dominated the race and won his third race out of the last four. If Bodine drives that truck for the entire 2006 season, he should be a favourite to win the championship. Dennis Setzer finished 16th and Ted Musgrave finished 20th and that was good enough to give Musgrave & truck owner Jim Smith their first NASCAR championship. Congratulations ro them.

Ryan Newman won the pole in the #39 Alltel Dodge owned by Roger Penske in today's NASCAR Busch series finale. Championship leader Martin Truex Jr. crashed on his qualifying run and he will start in the back of the field. Clint Bowyer is second in the standings and he is starting in the top ten. Truex has to get to the front to clinch his second championship so it should be very interesting. The race is being shown in Canada on tape delay tonight on Rogers Sportsnet. They were showing poker this afternoon! Don't ask me why.

Championship contender Carl Edwards won the pole for tomorrow's Nextel Cup finale. Tony Stewart starts 20th & Jimmie Johnson starts 32nd. This race will be on NBC Sunday 3PM.

The Bloody & Fang Suzuki to retire on New Year's Eve

The Bloody & Fang Suzuki held a press conference Saturday to announce
details of their Dec. 31 retirement show at Shinjuku FACE. The main
event will be kind of a blast from the past tag match with LSD2005
rules. It will be The Bloody & Fang Suzuki vs Dynamite Kansai & Mayumi
Ozaki. Kansai & Ozaki were chosen because they were the top wrestlers
in JWP several years ago so it's kind of a JD vs JWP vibe and supposed
to recall the inter promotional wars of the 90s. The LSD rules match
was created at JD five years ago by Lioness Asuka. If I recall
correctly, the rules are most falls in a set time limit but I could be
confusing it with some other kind of match. So they're doing it as a
tribute to Asuka and she was at the press conference too and said she
appreciated the respect. The Bloody & Fang Suzuki have decided to
retire on New Year's Eve because no one has ever done it before. The
other wrestlers thought the pair were kidding when they announced it.
Others appearing on the show include Jaguar Yokota, who trained both
wrestlers, Kyoko Inoue, Hiroyo Muto, Manami Toyota, Chikayo Nagashima,
Megumi Yabushita, Mima Shimoda, GAMI, Yuki Miyazaki, Yoshiko Tamura,
Tanny Mouse, Toshie Uematsu, Nanae Takahashi, Obacchi Iizuka & Saki
Maemura. Lioness Asuka is producing the show.

Takahashi returns Dec. 18 vs Hamada

Nanae Takahashi visited the Daily Sports office to announce that she
will wrestle Ayako Hamada on her return from knee surgery on the next
Flash 7 show at Shinjuku FACE on Dec. 18. Takahashi blew out her knee
last December while winning the WWWA Singles Title from Hamada. Her
last appearance was at Momoe Nakanishi's retirement show on Jan. 8,
2005. Takahashi also says she intends to settle things with Yumiko

Penny Banner has cancer

My very good friend and pro wrestling hall of famer Penny Banner sent the following email. I want to wish Penny the best in her fight against cancer. We'll be praying for you Penny.

Hello Everyone,

I have been holding off telling you that I was diagnosed with what the Doctor believes is " PeritonEum" cancer [the sac that holds all of our intestines together].
This synopsis comes from ALL other tests being done and coming back negative...bone..lungs..ovaries..colon..
pancreas..gall bladder etc
I will be operated on by Oncologist-Dr. Robert Higgins at 7:30am, Friday, day after Thanksgiving- Friday-Nov. 25th at CMC [ Carolinas Medical Center] 704-355-2000 and should stay there for three days [ home on Monday] under the name of ' Mary Ann [penny] Weaver'..Not sure they will let the Penny stay in the name ;-) I know how everyone is about sending cards..which is nice and here is a temporary address that they may be sent to[ if they want], that I will get...! ;-)
6810 Cabot Circle Charlotte, N.C. 28226.
After surgery, when my Doctor removes all the masses and my ovaries, they will send it to pathology..Only THEN will they know the extent of my cancer [ apx 10 days later]. They said that chemo should begin about 4-6 wks after surgery. All of the other Vitals in my system are good, which they tell me is a very good sign and for me to continue swimming ..working out..and just doing whatever I've always done to be in such good health before finding out about these 'silent bummers ' that have invaded my body ! !
Those of you wondering what were my first signs..it was losing WAY too much hair everytime I brushed it during the day.. Second was loose bowels..Third was that it was hard to hold my stomach in ..WHICH is WHY I went in for a check up.. I mean, I've been doing 85 crunchies with 50 lb weights now three times a week for years..and for this to happen WAS WAY out of sync.

This is NASCAR Chamionship weekend

This weekend, all three national NASCAR series crown champions at the final weekend of the 2005 season at Homestead Miami Speedway. All three series have at least two guys contending for the respective championships.

It all starts tonight with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series. Leading is Ted Musgrave in the #1 Mopar Dodge owned by Jim Smith. In second is Dennis Setzer in the #46 Duramax Chevy owned by Morgan Dollar Motorsports. Setzer was leading the points race in midseason but has not done well recently and was overtaken by Musgrave. Setzer has to really turn it on and hope that Musgrave has problems. The race is on SPEED tonight at 8PM.

Tomorrow the Busch Series championship will be decided. Defending Busch Series champ Martin Truex Jr. in the #8 Bass Pro Shops Chevy owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. & Teresa Earnhardt is leading. In second is Clint Bowyer in the #2 AC Delco Chevy owned by Richard Childress. Truex got a good lead during the summer. Bowyer closed the gap but has been unable to catch Truex over the last month. Truex will win if he finishes in the top ten. Both guys are headed for Nextel Cup in 2006. Truex will drive the #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevy for Dale Earnhardt Inc. & Bowyer will drive the #07 Jack Daniels Chevy for Richard Childress. The race is on TNT in the US & Rogers Sportsnet in Canada at 3PM.

The big Nextel Cup finale is on Sunday. There are four cars with a mathematical chance of winning but only two have a realistic chance. Those are points leader Tony Stewart in the #20 Home Depot Chevy for Joe Gibbs Racing and Jimmie Johnson in the #48 Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse Chevy for Rick Hendrick. It's the battle of the big box home improvement retailers. Carl Edwards in the #99 Office Depot Ford & Greg Biffle in the #16 National Guard Ford, both owned by Jack Roush, have a mathematical chance. Stewart has yet to win a race in the ten race Chase but has finished consistently in the top ten of all the races except for Charlotte. If Tony finishes in the top ten on Sunday, he's the 2005 Nextel Cup champ. And he's my favourite driver too. The race will be on NBC Sunday at 3PM.

Trumpeter Clifford Brown isn't as well known as other jazz musicians of the 50s because he died at age 25 in a car accident. But he was one of the best players of the bebop era and his music still holds up very well today.

Physiotherapy for Thursday Nov. 17

I was at Lyndhurst today for physiotherapy. I ran into my pal Josh. He was waiting for Wheeltrans. We were roommates at Lyndhurst for over four months. He moved into his apartment a few days before I moved into mine. He's going to Lyndhurst for physiotherapy & occupational therapy three days a week. He's a quad so what he's trying to do is get more function in his hands so he can grip things better and do more for himself. He's made a lot of progress but like the rest of us he has a long way to go. Josh says he wants to go back to school to take journalism so I suggested that he should start a blog and practice writing. I hope he does that. I'm sure I'll run into him again.

So I did some assisted walking today with a walker and also parellel bars. It's difficult to stay straight up because my knees want to buckle all the time. I also did straight leg lifts. I prefer doing them lying down as they are more effective. If I'm doing them sitting up I tend to use my upper body to compensate for the weakness in my legs. When lying down, I'm using my trunk more which is what I need to do. Either way they sure take a lot out of me. William & I are still figuring out which exercises are more effective. I'll try anything but I'll say something if I don't think the exercise is working.

Afterwards I spent some time with Stuart, another former roommate. He's a quad too and he's had a rough time at Lyndhurst but is improving slowly. He and his wife are building a new house but he'll probably have to go somewhere else while waiting for the house to be built. This will probably happen in a couple of weeks. He was asking me about Ted, another former patient who went home a couple of weeks ago. So I phoned Ted and he was at his computer. He's doing pretty well and hopes to drive pretty soon. Stuart was very happy I called him. Of course Stuart lied and said he was feeling pretty good. We all laughed.

Then I had to wait a while. Wheeltrans screwed up. When I booked the trip yesterday, they told me the pickup was at 5:25PM. He gave me the wrong time and it should have been 6:25PM. If I had known that I wouldn't have accepted it and gone on standby and get a better pickup time. I won't sit around for 90 minutes. This is a problem because as a diabetic, I have to be careful that my blood sugar doesn't get too low. I could get dizzy and pass out. Fortunately, I always carry a snack for just such an occasion. I'll have to keep a close eye on Wheeltrans. I'm back at Lyndhurst on Monday for an appointment with Dr. Oshidari and then physiotherapy on Tuesday.

Why do they fight

Livedoor Sports conducted interviews with several of the young
wrestlers who appeared on the Breath show. The theme was "Why Do
They Fight?

MAI ICHII born March 21, 1980

When did you become interested in pro wrestling?
I didn't watch it when I was a girl but became interested after
going to an All Japan Women show on December 23, 2003. It was very
exciting. I met Sakura Emi and after some resistance, I agreed to
train with her for three months and debuted on March 16, 2004.

What are your future plans?
First, I would like to wrestle in Korakuen Hall. Then, my wrestler
friend Haruhi & I want to own our own company. We plan to take over
the world (laughing).

NATSUKI*HEAD born May 7, 1984

When did you become interested in pro wrestling?
I enjoyed watching NOAH and All Japan Women on TV when I was in
junior high. I went to an AJW show while in high school and was very
impressed with Momoe Nakanishi because of her small size. Then I
went to train at Animal Hamaguchi's gym after my second year in high
school.

How difficult was it?
I wasn't prepared for how painful wrestling would be. I left after
working for AJW for six months. After taking a part time job, I
returned to the Hamaguchi gym to train but not for wrestling.

How did you get back into wrestling?
I started to train with Mai Ichii and some of the Sakura Emi girls
and it was much different from AJW. I re-debuted in June and have
been wrestling steadily since then.

KYOKO KIMURA born March 19,1977

When did you become interested in pro wrestling?
I enjoyed watching All Japan on TV and went to train at FMW at age
15. Then I went to Mexico at age 16 to train. I was living in San
Diego and discovered that Hayabusa was training in Tijuana. I saw a
poster in a restaurant. So I hopped into a cab and went there. I
worked in the restaurant while training.

When did you return to Japan?
My parents wanted me to return to school but I didn't want to do
that. I wanted to wrestle. They were upset with me. Eventually I met
Shark Tsuchiya and she brought me to JWP.

NAHO WATANABE born Jan. 12, 1989

How was your pro wrestling debut in June?
I got to show what I could do so it was good.

Did you hear the crowd?
No. I was trying to concentrate on my match.

Are you practicing for the next Breath show?
I'm practicing for that and I'm getting ready for the Queen's Cup
amateur tournament in the spring. Plus I'm still going to high
school. I'm pretty busy.

ATSUKO EMOTO born Nov. 8,1978

Were you interested in pro wrestling as a child?
No. I would change the channel when it was on.

So how did you get interested in it?
I was running my dairy in Hokkaido. I was around 22 years old. I was
getting tired of the work and getting kicked by the cow. (Note:Now
we know why Bullfight Sora is a cow.) I saw Shinobu Kandori give a
lecture and decided to audition to be a pro wrestler. I thought I
was accepted but misunderstood. Then I joined ARSION. ARSION became
A To Z. They decided to put me under a mask and made me a cow as a
gag. Then I left A To Z and now I freelance.

BAMBI born Sept. 21

How did you get interested in pro wrestling?
I hated school and decided to be a pro wrestler at age 15. My
parents were against it but I overcame their objections. I was fat
when I was a child and decided that pro wrestling would be a good
way to shape up. I went to work at DDT which is much different from
other wrestling companies. After things kind of stagnated there, I
went to K-Dojo.

The young and old appear on Breath

Mariko Yoshida held her fourth Breath show on Sunday at Shinjuku FACE
in front of a sellout crown of 508. What was very unusual and got a
lot of media attention was the pro debut of 1990 65kg. world amateur
champ Akiko Nacni at age 38. She is a mother of three and wrestling
coach at Gold's Kids gym in Tokyo. She said the Crush Gals inspired
her to wrestle. Her kids were there along with several of her
students. Her opponent was a rookie called Yuna. Nacni had to win
three falls to win and did so in in 7:40. Leon defeated Mai Ichii in
12:59. Kaoru Ito & Shuu Shibuya defeated Mariko Yoshida & Bambi in
16:38. Yuka Shiina defeated aspiring Olympic wrestler Naho Watanabe in
11:13. Watanabe is a student of Nacni. Haruka Matsuo & Atsuko Emoto
defeated Kyoko Kimura & Natsuki*Head in 23:17. Several of the
wrestlers did individual interviews with Livedoor Sports and I'll
write about those separately.

Chigusa Nagayo puts on first show

On Friday, Chigusa Nagayo promoted her first show since closing GAEA
at Shijuku FACE attracting a sell out crowd of 500. Chigusa used the
money she made at her restaurant to stage the show. The show was
titled Marvels Night. There was very little advance promotion and
none of the matches were announced in advance. And the goofiest part
was that all the wrestlers and matches were in costume play. This is
not unprecedented as AJW would do that occasionally but it's still a
strange way to do a debut show. The show started with Aja Kong's
announcement that Nov. 11 is Dump Matsumoto's 45th birthday. Sonoko
Kato brought out a birthday cake and a stuffed Winnie The Pooh and
Dump started to cry with happiness. I wish I had been there to see
that. The first match had Chikayo Nagashima dressed as a schoolgirl
against Devil Masami dressed like somebody's mother. Chikayo was
accompanied by five real high school girls. Nagashima won in 6:42.
The second match had Candy 2 (Tomoko Watanabe) defeat some guy in a
mask in 9:26. Then Yokota MOE (Jaguar Yokota as a housemaid) over A-
BOY ( Carlos Amano dressed up as a man) in 8:21. Next was Manami
Toyota dressed as a character in a popular soap opera over Meiko
Satomura in a general's uniform in 9:54. Finally, an international
contest had Dynamite Kansai as an American & Ayako Hamada as a
Mexican (very funny) over Toshie Uematsu & Mayumi Ozaki in what I
think were food related costumes. Anyway, the show sounds very
strange but it did well. What will Chigusa do next?

Of course Karen Clark Sheard is from the legendary gospel group The Clark Sisters. She is truly one of the best singers in the world today with a four octave range and legit jazz chops. Physiotherapy update

Today I went to Lyndhurst Hospital to start the outpatient physiotherapy program. It's been raining all day and travelling by Wheeltrans in that kind of weather is always a thrill. UGH!William Hseieh is my physiotherapist. I think he's new there. Obviously the initial session was an assessment and we'll start in earnest on Thursday. So I'll be going every Tuesday & Thursday at 4PM. for the next three months. Let's see how it goes.

Guerrero cause of death announced

The following was posted today on wwe.com. Very sad but not surprising.

Vickie Guerrero speaks on Eddie's autopsy report Nov. 15, 2005

After the untimely passing of Eddie Guerrero, WWE and the entire sports-entertainment community is steel reeling from the devastating loss of a champion. The initial autopsy reports on Guerrero have come in. WWE.com spoke with Eddie’s widow, Vickie Guerrero, earlier today.

“It was heart failure. It was from his past – the drinking and the drug abuse. They found signs of heart disease. She (the examiner) said that the blood vessels were very worn and narrow, and that just showed all the abuse from the scheduling of work and his past. And Eddie just worked out like crazy all the time. It made his heart grow bigger and work harder and the vessels were getting smaller, and that’s what caused the heart failure. He went into a deep sleep. As soon as they saw his heart, they saw the lining of his heart already had the heart disease. There was no trauma, and Eddie hadn’t hurt himself in any way. It answered a lot of questions. I knew Eddie wasn’t feeling very good for the last week. He was home and kept saying he wasn’t feeling good and we thought it was just “road tired.” So we thought he just had to rest. It answered a lot of my questions, too, because he was just so exhausted. She said it was normal because the heart was working so hard. When he didn’t call me last night and the night before I knew it was for real, because he would call me every night. I miss his phone calls. I cried through the whole thing (last night). I loved his laugh. His laugh was the best. We just celebrated his four-year sobriety last Thursday. We just thought we had life by the handful. We thought we had it all figured out. He worked so hard to make a better life for us. I’m just overwhelmed by how people are coming out. It’s touched my heart a lot. Everybody was just in awe last night in how beautifully everything was put together. All my life was wrestling. All he did was take care of them and live for that. And I don’t know what to do now.”

Review of RAW tribute to Eddie Guerrero

Tonight's episode of RAW was a tribute to WWE superstar Eddie Guerrero who died on Sunday. There was no storyline advancement. There were a couple of very good matches and some pointless ones interspersed with WWE superstar tributes to Eddie. The show started with Vince McMahon and the entire locker room on stage. Many of the wrestlers had clearly been crying before the show. McMahon's comment that Eddie's goal was always to steal the show was certainly true. That's why fans loved Eddie Guerrero. They made him lie, cheat & steal and we still loved him. They had Eddie in that idiotic Who's Your Daddy storyline with Rey Misterio Jr. last summer and after it was finished, we still loved him. So did all the guys in the locker room. The Kurt Angle/Shelton Benjamin & Rey Misterio Jr./Shawn Michaels were very strong. Unfortunately, the main event between John Cena & Randy Orton was very weak with a poor ending. I realize that Cena is the RAW champ and he needed to be on the show but the match seemed out of place especially as the main event. The tributes to Eddie Guerrero by Lillian Garcia, Dave Batista and especially Chavo Guerrero Jr., Rey Misterio Jr. & Chris Benoit were very emotional. Once again John Cena seemed out of place and so did HHH & Stephanie McMahon. I would have preferred hearing from The Big Show, Shelton Benjamin, Kurt Angle or Dean Malenko. This week's Smackdown will also be a tribute to Eddie so maybe we'll hear from them at that time. They plan to show some of Eddie's matches on Smackdown as well. Chris Benoit's comments were particularly poignant. Those two guys have been through a lot together over the years.

Tuesday night's edition of MSNBC's Rita Cosby:Live & Direct at 9PM EST will be a tribute to Eddie Guerrero

Video game company buys majority interest in New Japan

Asahi.com is reporting that video game Yukes has purchased majority interest in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The purchased 51.5% of the company from Antonio Inoki. Simon Inoki said that Antonio forced to sell his shares of New Japan or face a hostile takeover. In other words, he would have been kicked out of the company. New Japan will be a subsidiary of Yukes and the corporate structure will be revealed shortly but it looks like Simon Inoki will still be involved with the company.

Eddie Guerrero update

It has been reported that Eddie Guerrero died in his hotel room bathroom while brushing his teeth. They will do an autopsy but it looks like heart failure. Eddie went out to dinner last night with his nephew Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Eddie talked about being drug free for four years. Chavo was called this morning when Eddie didn't answer his phone and Chavo discovered his body on the bathroom floor. Eddie's friends Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko & Rey Misterio Jr. came to the room to say goodbye to Eddie. Did Eddie's past drug use cause his death? Possibly. He wouldn't be the first wrestler to die under these circumstances. Eddie's death is very similar to the deaths of Brian Pillman & Jerry Tuite.

Vince McMahon & Chavo Guerrero Jr. held a press conference this afternoon and McMahon announced that tonight's RAW & Smackdown tapings will be tributes to Eddie Guerrero featuring memories of Eddie from all the wrestlers. There will be no storyline developments on tonight's show. It causes a problem as they have to do something about Batista's injury and they're going overseas after tonight's show. On a side note, I hope the WWE dumps the Kerwin White character and allows Chavo Guerrero Jr. to use his real name again.

Recovery update

Hello to everyone from my tenth floor apartment overlooking Lake Ontario. Two big things this week. I finally got the funding for my own power chair. I should have my new chair in about a month. I can't wait. I really need my very own custom made wheelchair.

Also, I will start the outpatient physiotherapy program at Lyndhurst this Tuesday. I was told last month that it would take two months to come up on the waiting list. So I decided to get physiotherapy at the Kingsway Physiotherapy Clinic in the meantime. I have to keep exercising if I want to walk. Lyndhurst called me on Thursday so it actually only took two weeks instead of two months. I'll see how it goes and I'll update you all on Tuesday night. It's a long trip but it's the best place to go for physiotherapy for me.

Welcome to my brand new Big Bad Blog. I've started this mostly to keep folks updated on my recovery progress but you'll notice I've already posted some other things about the wrestling business in general and of course joshi puroresu in particular. And I'll post other things I'm interested in from time to time. I will update the blog regularly so come back often. I want to keep my writing skills sharp. I highly recommend getting an RSS reader so you will get updates automatically. Questions or comments? Leave a note at the bottom of any item or my email address is on this page. I'm not moderating comments for now but I'll change that if I get any spam. Thanks for reading my Big Bad Blog.

RIP Eddie Guerrero

WWE superstar Eddie Guerrero was found dead in his hotel room in Minneapolis. Eddie was to appear at tonight's Smackdown taping. The cause of death is not known. The coroner is still investigating. Eddie Guerrero was part of a prominent wrestling family including his father Gory Guerrero and his nephew and current WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero Jr. He is considered to be one of the best pro wrestlers of his generation. The WWE has announced that tonight's Smackdown & RAW tapings will be a tribute to Eddie. Shocking is not a strong enough word to characterize my feelings about Eddie's death. Condolences to his family. Eddie Guerrero, you will be missed.

Kurt Busch suspended for final two 2005 Nextel Cup races

The following is courtesy of Associated Press. Though Kurt Busch was cited for reckless driving on Friday, there is strong suspicion in the Nextel Cup garage that he was DUI. If so, he's damn foolish. One of his current sponsors is Crown Royal and next season his sponsor will be Miller Lite. He's leaving Roush Racing anyway so maybe this suspension will serve as a wakeup call. He's also been guilty of other bad behaviour in the past.

Busch suspended for season's last two races

By MIKE HARRIS, AP Motorsports Writer

November 13, 2005

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Kurt Busch was suspended by his team Sunday for the last two races of the NASCAR season after police cited the reigning Nextel Cup champion for reckless driving. Busch will be replaced in Sunday's race at Phoenix International Raceway by Kenny Wallace. He also will miss next week's Ford 400 in Homestead, Fla.

``It's the last straw for Roush Racing,'' said Geoff Smith, president of Roush Racing. ``We're officially retiring as Kurt Busch's apologists effective today.''

When asked about Busch's arrest and confrontation with police, team owner Jack Roush said it was no longer his problem. Busch has a history of trouble with the sport's sanctioning organization for run-ins on and off the track with drivers and NASCAR officials. The latest episode came Friday night when he was stopped near the track after trying to avoid another car and running a stop sign, police said. The police report said the officer who stopped Busch smelled alcohol on the driver's breath, although Busch was not cited for that. A breath test was not conclusive because the device failed.

Smith said Busch, who is under contract to the Roush team through the end of the season, will not be allowed to drive for anyone else in 2005. ``He would have to get permission and we would be very reluctant to give it,'' Smith said. ``It's very offensive to us that he chose to take on the arresting officer the way he did verbally. And then the fact there was alcohol, even in the smallest way, involved.''

Busch is eighth in points this season and qualified 17th for Sunday's race. The driver already had been given his release from Roush Racing and plans to join Penske Racing South next season, taking over the No. 2 Dodge from retiring Rusty Wallace.

Pancrase adds womens match to show

Pancrase has added a womens match to their Dec. 4 show at Differ Ariake. It's a 54kg. bout with Windy Tomomi vs Sayaka. Like Hisae Watanabe, Windy Tomomi is a kickboxer who is very adept at MMA.

Mimi Hagiwara returns to the ring...sort of

Jaguar Yokota & Devil Masami held a press conference on Friday to announce their next Empress shows on Dec. 4 at Shinjuku FACE. There will be a day show and a night show with a tournament called Of Next Shining. But the news that got all the attention in the media is the appearance of Mimi Hagiwara on the show. She's going to sing a song. As many fans may be aware, Mimi has been an actress since retiring from the ring. Among those appearing in the tournament will be Saki Maemura, Hikaru, Atsuko Emoto, Natsuki*Head, Hiroyo Muto & Leon. Also appearing are Aja Kong, Amazing Kong, Meiko Satomura, Manami Toyota, Megumi Yabushita, The Bloody, Fang Suzuki, Drake Morimatsu, Dynamite Kansai, Commando Bolshoi, Azumi Hyuga, Ayako Hamada, Mayumi Ozaki, Carlos Amano, Chikayo Nagashima, Kaoru Ito, Tomoko Watanabe, Kumiko Maekawa and of course Jaguar Yokota & Devil Masami. These shows are much more ambitious than anything these two have produced in the past.

GIRLS DOOR holds another press conference

GIRLS DOOR held a press conference on Thursday to announce that Ayako Hamada will appear on their debut show. Mayumi Hashiba was late to the press conference because she was promoting her new CD so they have decided to put her in a karaoke match. The winner gets to sing a song of her choice. Uh, right. This is what they've announced so far.

GIRLS DOOR - 11/23/05 - Shinjuku FACE
KARAOKE MATCH:Mayumi Hashiba vs Hikaru Shinohara & Yokose
Kaoru Ito & Tomoko Watanabe vs Ayako Hamada & TBA

IW*GP debuts

Things did not go well at Wednesday's debut of IW*GP. For one thing, the show started an hour late. Second, they didn't announce any matches in advance. It appears that several of the wrestlers scheduled to appear on this tour are only coming over for a couple of shows. If you don't tell people who's on the show, why would they come? The matches themselves were a real mishmash. Those guys MISAWA & NOGAWA must be joined at the hip. MISAWA was DQd in his match with Amazing Kong because NOGAWA interfered. The main event was a battle royal won by Rebecca Knox. It doesn't look like these guys have their act together. Here are the results of the show.

IW*GP - 11/9/05 - Korakuen Hall
Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Plata & Brazo de Platina def. Aja Kong, El Gran Hamada & NOGAWA (Oro over Hamada in 10:43)
Jaguar Yokota & Marcella def. Devil Masami & Amapola (Yokota overAmapola in 16:02)Amazing Kong def. MASAWA by DQ in 3:24
Nattie Neidhart, Rebecca Knox & Nikita def. Asian Cougar & ReyExtreme (Knox over Extreme in 18:00)
Rebecca Knox won the battle rotal in 6:43.
