Yahoo LAUNCHCAST song of the day

Artist:Blood, Sweat & Tears

Song:And When I Die

Album:Greatest Hits

Former Blues Project member Al Kooper started the jazz rock movement of the late 60s with Blood, Sweat & Tears but by the time And When I Die came out on their second album, he had been ousted by guitarist Steve Katz & drummer Bobby Colomby over Kooper's vocals on the first album. I guess they wanted a more traditional rock sound. Trumpeter Randy Brecker also left to form the group Dreams with brother Michael. Blood, Sweat & Tears actually rehearsed with Laura Nyro as lead vocalist. That didn't work out and they hired Toronto based singer David Clayton-Thomas. But they kept one of Nyro's songs And When I Die and it was a huge hit. The group's success was short lived because of a revolving door of group members and the fact that producer James William Guercio decided to work with rival group Chicago. Clayton-Thomas left for an unsuccessful solo career and then returned. This comp has all their hits and was originally released in 1972. The first two BS&T albums are recommended.
