Yahoo LAUNCHCAST song of the day

Artist:Wilson Pickett

Song:Land Of 1000 Dances

Album:Wilson Pickett's Greatest Hits

Wilson Pickett was probably the rawest sounding soul singer of the 60s. He started out as a member of The Falcons and they had a top ten hit in 1962 with I Found A Love. Atlantic signed him in 1965 and sent him to record at Stax in Memphis. In those days, Booker T & The MGs could make hits with anyone and Pickett was no exception. He had a long string of hits including the dance anthem Land Of 1000 Dances. It was originally a hit for the song's writer Chris Kenner in 1963. There were several cover versions but Pickett's was the most memorable. This comp is pretty good. It has all his hits. Pickett left Atlantic in 1973 and continued to record for RCA & EMI but wasn't able to repeat his success. There is something about working with those Stax boys. Wilson Pickett died of a heart attack on Jan. 19, 2006 at age 64.
