Nanae Takahashi is the AWA World Womens Champion, Aja Kong next challenger

Pro Wrestling SUN held their much anticipated debut show October 1 at Korakuen Hall. The promotion is owned and operated by ZERO-ONE MAX so it's not overly surprising that the show was somewhat overbooked because that's what these guys normally do. The basic concept is the four girls on the SUN roster versus the gaijin heel faction Real Evil Makers led by Amazing Kong. The main event had Nanae Takahashi vs Afrika 55 for the AWA World Womens Title. Because Afrika was hired because of her Amazon look, she's really an unknown. They don't know what she can do. The day before the show Dale Gagne of the AWA named Steve Corino as the ref for this match. There was also something about having a Japanese ref ringside to ensure fairness. Is that overbooked enough for you?

There were three other belts up for grabs but let's get the prelims out of the way. First, puroresu legend and trainer Animal Hamiguchi delivered a video message wishing SUN the best of luck. Animal was in China watching his daughter Kyoko Hamiguchi win an amateur wrestling tournament. Natsuki*Head is now known as Natsuki*Taiyo and she defeated Ayumi Kurihara in 10:44. Then a mixed match had Steve Corino & Panther Claw defeating Yoshihito Sasaki & Saki Maemura when Panther Claw used something called the Claw Bomb on Maemura at 14:00.

The Croatian Panther Wesna Busic defended her EWA Womens Title & NSG Title against Ayako Hamada in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match. Apparently this was the first ever TLC match in joshi history. I find that hard to believe but it explains why ZERO-ONE MAX president Nakamura would want to do one. I can tell you for sure that neither Wesna or Ayako had ever done one though both are very capable. Ayako did a moonsault from the top rope onto Wesna lying on a table. Wesna came back and power bombed Ayako through a table twice. Ayako did an AP Cross from the ladder. The finish had Wesna doing two Axe guillotine drivers on Ayako. Then she went up the ladder and retained her titles at 17:36. Ayako said afterwards she enjoyed the TLC match and wants to do another one. Yeah, she's insane. Amazing Kong successfully defended her World 1 Wrestling Womens Title over Hikaru with the Amazing Press at 16:18.

The main event is the AWA World Womens Title match between Nanae Takahashi & Afrika 55 with Steve Corino as ref. Before the match, Afrika busts Nanae open with the belt. The main story of the match was Corino as heel ref. Of course he helped Afrika and he was booed. I don't have to describe this. You know what he did. Then the match went outside the ring and SUN & REM members all got involved. Takahashi took a beating. The end came when Amazing Kong came to the ring and hit Corino by mistake and knocked him out. Legendary Atrocious Alliance heel ref Shiro Abe came down to replace Corino and Takahashi used the Nanarack at 16:48 to become the AWA World Womens Champion.

After the match, Amazing Kong said that she's not worried. She has plenty of friends for REM. Aja Kong comes to the ring and challenges Nanae Takahashi for the AWA World Womens Title. Wait a minute. Aren't REM supposed to be gaijins? This is the wrestling business. Logic doesn't apply. Takahashi told reporters this was just the first building block and she was very happy with the show. President Nakamura was a little more specific. He says he's looking for more gaijins. He says that with three different promotions he is offering something for everyone that will attract new fans. He plans to run SUN in Korakuen Hall four times in 2007 and also plans one out of town show a month.

Pro Wrestling SUN held a press conference October 2 to tease future events and announce their next show. Amazing Kong & Panther Claw of REM interrupted the press conference. Amazing Kong wore an Aja Kong T-shirt to provoke Takahashi. Do you think that worked? Amazing Kong said she's the strongest and REM is the best team. She can have any of the belts if she wants but right now is bringing Aja Kong's challenge to Nanae Takahashi. Panther Claw said Saki Maemura was so short she couldn't see her. She says she used her sex appeal to distract Yoshihito Sasaki. After they left, Takahashi said she was very happy with the crowd at the debut show. Afrika 55 was strong and Takahashi thought she had broken her neck a couple of times. The next Pro Wrestling SUN show will be Nov. 16 at Shin-kiba 1st Ring. Takahashi says she plans to defend her AWA World Womens Title but she is refusing Aja Kong's challenge. You can be sure that will change.
