It speaks to legendary sax player Sonny Rollins' status that this recently released Impulse Story comp is based on three records he made for Impulse. The album East Broadway Run Down was recorded in 1966 and this epic twenty minute track is the centerpiece. The musicians are Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Jimmy Garrison on bass & Elvin Jones on drums. Rollins & Hubbard are going in different directions but but that's the nature of improvisation and it turned out very well anyway. Rollins' RCA & Riverside recordings are more important so that's where you want to start.
We have a municipal election coming up on Nov. 13 and there's a city councillor all candidates meeting tonight at The Assembly Hall. I'm going to check that out and see if any of these people are worth a vote. The mayor's race is kind of a joke. I hate David Miller but no one worthwhile is running against him.
