Yahoo LAUNCHCAST song of the day

Artist:Ornette Coleman

Song:The Legend Of Bebop

Artist:The Art Of The Improvisers

Just when bebop was starting to be accepted in the late 50s, sax player Ornette Coleman turned things upside down with his Free Jazz quartet with trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Charlie Haden & drummer Ed Blackwell. It was very controversial at the time even among jazz buffs but songs like The Legend Of Bebop from this 1959 album still hold up very well. Coleman has continued to stretch the boundaries of jazz through his entire career. He's not always successful but he's never boring. And Ornette Coleman is still doing it at age 76. His new CD Sound Grammar was released last month. But I don't recommend his music for beginners.
