JD Star launches League Princess 07 tournament

JD Star's Apr. 6 Shin-kiba 1st Ring show heralded the start of the League Princess 07 tournament. We all know that they did this last year to elevate Fuuka and give her a title. But with only one Athtress in this year's tournament, I don't know why they're doing it again. They also don't have a belt to give out. I suppose it's a little less predictable as Athtress Misaki Ohata is unlikely to win this tournament as she is very green and weak looking. But there's a wrestler in this even greener than her. The matches have a ten minute time limit. A win gets three points. A draw gets one point. A loss gets zero points.

The opening match in the tournament was between JWP rookie Kaori Ohki & Io Murasaki. That's what I will call her for now as it appears her name isn't translatable. She and her older sister were trained by Tomo Hashimoto and she made her debut last month for Team Makehen. So she's really green. Murasaki hits a couple of dropkicks followed by a 619. Ohki finishes her in 4:25 with a moonsault press. Next was NEO rookie Aya Yuki vs Athtress Misaki Ohata. Ohata uses her basic dropkick offense but Yuki comes back with chops and finishes Ohata with an STF in 5:22.

Next up is Ibuki rookie Hiroyo Matsumoto vs Kaoru Ito rookie Hanako Kobayashi. It looks like this was a better match than the first two. They exchange blows and Kobayashi is very aggressive. Matsumoto is thrown outside the ring and seems to hurt her right ankle (pictured). She does return and Kobayashi hooks an ankle lock but Matsumoto hangs on for a ten minute draw. If I had to pick a winner of this tournament, it would be Gutsworld's Yuri Urai. She was a big part of the recent JD Star main event angle and she's worked for them frequently. Her opponent is JWP's Arisa Nakajima. Nakajima is probably the better wrestler but Urai has that Athtress look JD Star loves. Nakajima hits a face buster and applies a stretch muffler. Urai comes back with a camel clutch. The end comes when Nakajima hits a diving body press but Urai reverses it for the pin at 7:02.

The main event was Shuu Shibutani, Fuuka & Cherry vs Ayumi Kurihara, Bullfight Sora & a mystery wrestler. It was Kyoko Kimura. Too bad it wasn't Ayako Hamada. Shibutani won the match over Sora with a hurricanrana at 14:15. So now it's time to set up the main event for the Apr. 22 show. It seems Cherry will be working a DDT show and won't be available. So Shibutani agrees to team with Fuuka and Kimura & Kurihara shake hands and will take them on. JD Star GM Kobayashi asked Fuuka about the Topgun series and she said maybe she'll continue that on Apr. 30...or maybe not. Also announced for the Apr. 22 show are League Princess 07 matches Yuri Urai vs Aya Yuki, Hiroyo Matsumoto vs Kaori Ohki, Hanako Kobayashi vs Misaki Ohata and Arisa Nakajima vs Io Murasaki.
