Nanae Takahashi's overseas road trip to Los Angeles went as planned...for about twelve hours. Takahashi challenged Amazing Kong for the AWA World Womens Championship at the Inoki Dojo. After a good match, Takahashi won with the Shining Wizard at 15:49. All is right with the world. But on Monday, Takahashi & Saki Maemura were training at the Inoki Dojo when they were approached by a man who said he was on the AWA board of directors. He took the belt. Two reasons have been given. First, The AWA looked at the video of the match and determined that a closed fist was used at the end of the match. There should have been a DQ. Second, there was a point in the match where they thought Takahashi was saying "I give up" in Japanese. They said the ref didn't understand her and the match continued. How lame is all that? There is no champ right now and it isn't known if the Takahashi/Wesna Busic match on May 27 will be for the belt.
Fans have been asking me if Amazing Kong will return to Japan. Never say never but I don't think so for now. This Los Angeles match is the last thing First On Stage president Nakamura wanted to do. A title change in Korakuen Hall is worth something to them. A title change in Los Angeles isn't worth anything. They would have preferred AK drop the belt in Tokyo so that means she isn't returning to Japan. Saki Maemura had a match with Cheerleader Melissa on the Inoki Dojo show. Maemura said on her blog that she was a little apprehensive because she didn't know Melissa. It was basically a twelve minute squash. Among other things, Melissa threw Maemura into the railing outside the ring, a chair shot and whatever else she could think of. Fans unfamiliar with Maemura might think she should be more competitive. The answer is Maemura is a jobber. Getting clobbered is what she does best.
