Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Etta James

Artist:Etta James

Song:Only Women Bleed

Album:Deep In The Night

When blues legend Etta James made her big comeback in the 90s, her version of the Alice Cooper song Only Women Bleed became a favourite with live audiences. When Universal reissued all of Etta's Chess recordings, fans wondered why they never reissued Only Women Bleed. It's because she didn't record it for Chess. Etta signed with Warner Bros. after leaving Chess and 1978's Deep In The Night was her only recording there. It was barely released and became the great lost Etta James record. She got together with legendary Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler and LA studio aces like Cornell Dupree, Jeff Porcaro, Chuck Rainey & Plas Johnson. She not only does Only Women Bleed but does The Eagles' Take It To The Limit. Fortunately, Bullseye Blues got the rights to Deep In The Night and reissued it on CD in 1995. So it's not lost anymore. Be sure to check it out. Here's Etta James with The Blues Breakers performing You Got Me Running at the Capitol Theatre in New Jersey 1982.
