Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Chrisette Michele

Artist:Chrisette Michele

Song:Hidden Track

Album:I Am

Considering the way female R & B singers are sold today, it's good to hear a new artist that has the talent to be around for many years. I Am is Chrisette Michele's debut CD. She was born Chrisette Michele Payne in 1982 in Patchogue, Long Island, NY. She grew up singing in church as her dad is a deacon and plays the organ and her mom was choir director. But at age 17, a teacher gave a CD with Astrud Gilberto singing Girl From Ipanema. So she started studying the greats like Billie Holiday & Ella Fitzgerald at Five Townes College in Long Island. She started singing at local clubs and India.Arie spotted her at the Village Underground. She asked Chrisette to open for her and she also opened for Kem & Angie Stone. She was also spotted by DefJam's LA Reid & Doug "Biggs" Ellison and they signed her in 2006. First they had her sing hooks for rappers like Jay-Z & Nas. I Am was released a couple of weeks ago. She works with producers like Babyface, John Legend, will.i.am & Kevin Randolph but the key thing is she writes a lot of her own material. And as this video for If I Have My Way shows, she clearly has jazz chops. So if the hip hop thing doesn't work out, she has a bright future in jazz or gospel. It's kind of like...oh...Kelly Price or Anita Baker. Sounds good to me. She's a beautiful girl and she is presented in a classy way. I like her. Check out the video.
