Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Johnny Winter

Artist:Johnny Winter

Song:Tribute To Muddy

Album:The Progressive Blues Experiment

Of course blues guitarist Johnny Winter has been very popular with blues fans since the late 60s. But you don't want to overlook this newly remastered early recording. He was born Feb. 23, 1944 in Beaumont, TX. As many fans know, Johnny & brother Edgar are albinos. The two formed their first band as teens and played sessions & clubs in Texas. A 1968 article in Rolling Stone got him national attention and a contract with Columbia Records. But he actually recorded The Progressive Blues Experiment for Imperial Records in 1967 with his original trio of Red Turner on drums & Tommy Shannon on bass. But Imperial didn't release it until after Winter became popular in 1969. That tends to confuse fans but this album is as down & dirty as anything Winter ever recorded. It was released on CD by the One Way budget label in 1992 but Capitol finally issued a remastered version in 2005. It's a must for Winter fans. Johnny Winter last recorded in 2004 but he continues to play the blues all over the world. He's a great guitarist. Here's Johnny Winter performing Mean Town Blues at Woodstock in 1969. This clip did not make the film version of Woodstock.
