Everybody knows about Elvis Presley but it is his birthday today and Jailhouse Rock is my favourite Elvis film and one of his best songs. This 2CD comp Elvis By The Presleys is interesting but not necessarily recommended. Over the years RCA Records has released so many Elvis comps it is mind boggling. This one was released in 2005 when the documentary Elvis By The Presleys was shown on CBS. The idea behind the film and book was to show Elvis behind the scenes. That doesn't make sense on CD so RCA decided to put some rarities on the second CD. So this version of Jailhouse Rock includes several takes that were never previously released. The collector might be interested but it's probably not for the casual fan. I may recommend an Elvis comp at another time. Of course Jailhouse Rock was written and produced by the legendary team of Jerry Lieber & Mike Stoller. And the whole point was to turn Elvis into a movie star and Jailhouse Rock succeeded in that goal too. I think it's his best film and still holds up very well today.
