Artist:Randy Crawford f/Eric Clapton & David Sanborn

Song:Knockin' On Heaven's Door

Album:The Best Of Randy Crawford

Randy Crawford is probably best known for her vocal on The Crusaders 1979 hit Street Life. This version of Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door is her biggest solo hit. She has a big following in Europe. She was born Feb. 18, 1952 in Macon, GA and grew up in Cincinnati. She sang in local clubs as a teen. She was lead singer in a group featuring Bootsy Collins before touring as George Benson's opening act in 1972. She also worked with jazz sax legend Cannonball Adderley. Randy signed with Warner Bros. and her big break came when The Crusaders song Street Life was on the soundtrack of the hit film Sharky's Machine in 1979. Her albums did reasonably well on the Black Music charts but she was unable to get that big breakthrough hit until Knockin' On Heaven's Door was included in the hit film Lethal Weapon 2 in 1989. It hit #4 on the pop singles charts. Randy Crawford has always been more popular in Europe and moved to Germany in the mid-90s. On her latest CD Feeling Good, she reunited with Crusaders pianist Joe Sample. She's a very good singer and this comp is a good introduction to her music. Here's the video for Knockin' On Heaven's Door by Randy Crawford featuring Eric Clapton & David Sanborn.
