Gina Carano wins again

Gina Carano again showed that she can back up the hype by defeating Kelly Kobold by unanimous decision on Saturday's EliteXC show in Sunrise, FL. Even with the silliness of Friday's weigh in, Gina showed that she knows exactly what she's doing in the cage. Kelly's a wrestler and her strategy was to take down Gina as soon as possible. because she couldn't win a slugfest against Gina. But Gina was prepared for this and Kelly only took her down once at the end of round two. So it was Gina's defense that earned her the win because if Kelly takes her down successfully the first time, Gina's in trouble. It didn't work and Kelly's repeated takedown attempts took a lot of her energy. Gina's superior standup skills told the rest of the story. A knee right between the eyes busted Kelly open. Gina poured it on in round three with a rear naked choke and more strikes. So it was a good effort from Kelly Kobold but Gina Carano won and proved again that she has what it takes to be a champ. Check out the match video.

Before the live CBS show, Cris Cyborg defeated Yoko Takahashi by unanimous decision. In the past, EliteXC has shown the undercard on Showtime. I don't know why but they didn't do that this time. It was taped but wasn't on TV. So I don't know if we'll get to see it. Reportedly Cyborg won easily but couldn't put Takahashi away. Next will be Gina Carano vs Cris Cyborg. CBS has one more EliteXC show so it might be on that. The interesting thing is it could be the main event of the show. After losing to Seth Petruzelli in 14 seconds, they'd be crazy to try and sell Kimbo Slice in the main event. He's been exposed for the greenhorn that he is. Obviously it would be risky to push women in the main event but the ratings indicate that Gina is a bonafide draw and unlike Kimbo Slice, she's bonafide in the ring too. I don't know what else they can do because none of their other guys are main event draws. How about an all womens show? They could use it to introduce Marloes Coenen & Sarah Kaufman. Someimes with risk comes a big reward.

Frank, defshepard here, Your comments on this fight are dead on right. I could not have said it better myself. I will add only this. I hope we get to see the Cyborg/Takahashi fight. Its sounds like a real good one. Also I give a lot of credit to Yoko Takahashi for fighting so hard for all three rounds. She did not give up or get KO'ed or TKO'ed as so many predicted would happen. She showed alot of spirit and toughnes.Yours defshepard.
