Haruyama defends, Hyuga turns heel

The main event of JWP's Sept. 23 Korakuen Hall show had Kayoko Haruyama defending her JWP Open Weight Title against Yumiko Hotta. But Azumi Hyuga was also returning from a knee injury and would have to be worked into the mix. The opener was a juniors match with Hiroyo Matsumoto, Ryo Mizunami & Io Shirai vs Arisa Nakajima, Pinkie Mayuca & Yumi Ohka. Isn't Ohka a little old to still be a junior? The main purpose of the match was to get Mizunami & Nakajima in the same ring as Mizunami is scheduled for an upcoming JWP Junior Title match. So it was standard JWP booking. Those two started the match and Nakajima got the edge with some help from Mayuca. Mayuca & Shirai went back and forth for a while until Ohka tagged in and hit some high impact moves on Shirai including a lariat and a spin kick. Matsumoto tags in and gets Ohka in the Argentinian backbreaker. Matsumoto is triple teamed with a hip attack. Shirai tries to break it up but Ohka gets Matsumoto in an over the top rope arm scissors followed by a suplex. Nakajima tags in and Matsumoto catches her cross body and follows with a choke slam. Matsumoto huts a back fist and tags Mizunami. Mizunami pounds Nakajima followed by a backdrop suplex. Nakajima goes for a superplex but Mizunami blocks it. She hits Mayuca with a power slam. Ohka comes in and is speared. Mayuca is softened up by a Matsumoto backbreaker and a Shirai moonsault. Mizunami wins with a guillotine legdrop at 15:41. Mizunami confronted Nakajima afterwards.

Next was KAZUKI & Kei'to vs Kaori Yoneyama & Tojuki Leon. The story of the match is Leon has a bad elbow so KAZUKI & Kei'to work on her arm for most of the match and KAZUKI uses an armbar for the win 13:33. Next was Commando Bolshoi vs Megumi Yabushita in a submission match. So the match was the two trying to hook submissions on each other. Of course one has to suspend belief to believe that Bolshoi could really win a submission match with Yabushita. but she did win with a Kido Clutch at 13:13. Next is Tsubasa Kuragaki & Jaguar Yokota vs Toshie Uematsu & Hailey Hatred. This is mostly the Kuragaki show. She hits an Asahi moonsault to the outside. Whatever Uematsu & Hatred try doesn't seem to work. Kuragaki stacks them up in a backbreaker. The end comes when she slams Uematsu face first into the mat and wins with an ankle lock at 12:18.

Next was Azumi Hyuga's return match. She teamed with Ran YuYu vs Yoshiko Tamura & Misae Genki. Tamura & Genki beat up on Hyuga. Tamura does that top rope facewash. Hyuga comes back with a double arm suplex and a backbreaker. Then Hyuga & Ran drop her on her face. Hyuga applies the Rita Romero Special. Ran tags in and Tamura does her top rope facewash followed by a jawbreaker. Genki & Tamura hit a double team backdrop suplex followed by Genki's Northern Lights suplex. Ran blocks Genki's choke slam and tags Hyuga. Genki blocks a German suplex but Hyuga hits a dropkick. Hyuga hits a somersault plancha to the floor. Hyuga hits Genki with a missile dropkick. Genki attempts to lift both of them with a suplex. They block it but Genki hits a double lariat off the ropes. The end comes when Tamura spears Hyuga. Tamura holds Hyuga for a Genki lariat and Tamura wins with the Roaring Elbow at 20:14. Hyuga shakes hands with Tamura afterwards.

Time for the main event with Kayoko Haruyama defending her JWP Open Weight Title against Yumiko Hotta. As much as many of us dislike Hotta for various reasons, she is still perceived as a very effective freelance heel by some promoters. They waste no time going to the floor and Hotta wraps a chair around Haruyama's head. Hotta wraps the chain around Haruyama's throat and hangs her over the top rope. She continues ro beat up Haruyama. They wind up outside again and Hotta continues her chair attack. Haruyama comes back and lariats Hotta against a pillar. Back in the ring, they struggle on the top turnbuckle and Haruyama hits a flying legdrop. Hotta nails her with the chain and gets a two count. Then Hotta hits a backdrop suplex from the top rope for two. Haruyama comes back and after a lariat, she wins with the Keene Hammer at 19:43. Afterwards, Hotta gets on the mic and calls Hyuga to the ring. They shake hands and Hyuga stares down Haruyama. So it looks like Hotta will hang around JWP for a while and help Hyuga. I wonder what a heel Hyuga will be like.
