Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Patsy Cline

Artist:Patsy Cline
Song:So Wrong
Album:12 Greatest Hits

Patsy Cline was one of the all time greats of country music. Unfortunately she died in a plane crash at age 30 in 1963 but her legend has grown over the years. She crossed over a bit to the pop charts but she didn't cross over as much as labelmate Brenda Lee. 1962's So Wrong wasn't her biggest hit but it's a great song and I have a great clip of Patsy performing it. She was born Virginia Patterson Hensley Sept. 8, 1932 in Winchester, VA. Her nickname was Ginny. She dropped out of high school and worked during the day and performed in clubs at night. She married contractor Gerald Cline in 1953. He wanted Ginny to be a housewife but she still wanted to be a star. They divorced after Ginny had an affair with her new manager Bill Peer. He named her Patsy Cline. Patsy signed with Four Star Records in 1955 but her records there only hinted at her potential. Then Patsy met and married Charlie Dick in 1957 and he got her national attention. Patsy's big national breakthrough came after a 1957 appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. She sang Walkin' After Midnight and that was Patsy's first crossover hit. Patsy's contract with Four Star ended in 1960 and her new manager Randy Hughes signed her to Decca Records to work with legendary producer Owen Bradley. The 1961 hit I Fall To Pieces returned Patsy to the pop charts and many of her other songs were top ten country hits. So Wrong didn't quite make the top ten in 1962 but it's a great song written by Carl Perkins & Mel Tillis and songwriter Danny Dill. Patsy Cline nearly died in a car accident in 1961. She continued to be hugely popular in Nashville until her death in a plane crash on Mar. 5, 1963 at age 30. This comp is a little short but there are plenty of Patsy Cline comps available. Patsy Cline was the first inductee to the Country Music Hall Of Fame and her influence on country music continues to be wide ranging. Here's Patsy Cline performing So Wrong in Las Vegas 1962.
