Yahoo LAUNCHCAST Song Of The Day-Old Crow Medicine Show

Artist:Old Crow Medicine Show
Song:Next Go 'Round
Album:Tennessee Pusher

Old Crow Medicine Show can be best described as a country and bluegrass band with a rock 'n' roll attitude. They seem to have a siginficant fanbase in both the country and rock markets though I would say they're more country than rock. The roots of the group are in Harrisonburg, VA. Lead singer Ketch Secor and banjoist Chris "Critter" Fuqua began making music together in seventh grade. Secor moved to New York to attend Ithaca College because his girlfriend was attending Cornell University. He brought Fuqua up and formed a group with guitarist Willie Watson and bassist Ben Gould. They recorded a cassette to sell on the road in 1998. They were busking in front of a pharmacy in North Carolina when they sere spotted by Doc Watson's daughter. They were invited to perform at MerleFest and moved to Nashville in 2000. They got the attention of veteran country music star Marty Stuart. Stuart was president of the Grand Ole Opry and Old Crow Medicine Show performed there in 2001. Stuart also put them together with producer David Rawlings (Gillian Welch). This led to a contract with Nettwerk Records and their debut CD O.C.M.S. was released in 2004. Their music is a mix of bluegrass standards and original compositions. Ben Gould was replaced by Morgan Jahnig and guitjo player Kevin Hayes joined. Tennessee Pusher is their latest CD and the group has made inroads into the mainstream market while retaining their country base. This new album was produced by veteran producer Don Was and he's not known as a country producer. Secor wrote most of the songs and wrote Next Go 'Round with Watson. Fuqua recently left and has been replaced by Gill Landry. Old Crow Medicine Show are currently on tour and I recommend them to country and bluegrass fans. Here's Old Crow Medicine Show performing Next Go 'Round on Nashville radio station WRLT Lightning 100 Oct. 2008.
