Jango Song Of The Day-Peter & Gordon

Artist:Peter & Gordon
Song:A World Without Love
Album:The Ultimate Peter & Gordon

The 1964 hit A World Without Love was the first non-Beatles song to reach #1 on the US singles charts. Peter & Gordon were a British Invasion Everly Brothers with a Beatles connection that I'll get to in a minute. Peter Asher was born June 22, 1944 in Wiiliesden, Middlesex, England. Gordon Waller was born June 4, 1945 in Braemar, Scotland. Asher was a child actor and the two met and started performing together while attending the Westminster School. Asher's sister Jane Asher dated Paul McCartney through most of the 60s. A World Without Love is a Lennon/McCartney song. McCartney didn't think it was good enough for The Beatles and offered it to Billy J. Kramer before giving it to Asher. The rest is history. McCartney wrote other songs for Peter & Gordon including Nobody I Know, I Don't Want To See You Again and Woman. This comp from Collectors Choice has all their hits. Peter & Gordon split up in 1968. Gordon Waller attempted an unsuccessful solo career. But Peter Asher moved to Los Angeles and went on to be a major record producer. He produced James Taylor's debut album when he was head of A & R at Apple Records and went on to produce others including Linda Ronstadt. He still does that today. Peter & Gordon reunhited at a Beatles tribute concert in Las Vegas in 2005. Here's Peter & Gordon performing A World Without Love in 1964.
