Hisae Watanabe returns at Shoot Boxing show

Shoot Boxing had their S-Girls Cup tournament today at the Shinagawa Stellar Ball in Tokyo. There were some MMA fighters on the show and there was one MMA fight. It also included the return of Hisae Watanabe. Most of the pre fight hype was about the 18 year old high school student shoot boxer Rena. Not surprisingly, she won the tournament with a win over VALKYRIE fighter V1. I don't know if she has plans to get into MMA. She says she's studying jiu jitsu but the interest in her shows that JEWELS would be wise to find themselves an attractive high school student to push. I agree that is a very cynical viewpoint but it would probably work. Megumi Fujii had an exhibition match against Hisae Watanabe. One round was MMA rules and the other round was Shoot Boxing rules. They were mostly sparring. Watanabe was very excited about returning and she said she's ready to fight anyone. How about Megumi Fujii for real? Maybe she's not ready for that. That's Watanabe and Fujii in the pic. The one MMA match had rising star Shizuka Sugiyama (4-0) vs Hitomi Sakamoto (0-2) in a 57kg match scheduled for two five minute rounds. Sugiyama counters Sakamoto's attempted kicks with punches and then a takedown. They get tangled up but Sugiyama takes control though Sakamoto is able to escape her submission attempts. Sugiyama get another takedown at the end of the round and is pounding Sakamoto when the bell rings. Sakamoto does a bit better in round two but Sugiyama again counters her kicks with body punches. She has Sakamoto in a guillotine choke when the match ends. Shizuka Sugiyama wins by unanimous decision and is still undefeated.
