Irma Thomas live at Harbourfront

Legendary soul singer Irma Thomas is appearing tonight at The Sirius Stage at Harbourfront as part of the Hot & Spicy Food Festival. I would pay to see Irma but the show is sponsored by Louisiana Tourism so it's FREE! She will be giving a lecture at 6:30PM and then the show is at 9:30PM. I will be going by subway. Irma Thomas is known as the Soul Queen Of New Orleans. She only had one top twenty pop hit in her career but she has actually been very successful on the blues charts in recent years. She has recorded for Rounder Records since 1986. She won a Grammy for her 2006 CD After The Rain. Her latest CD Simply Grand was released last year. The concept has Irma working with various pianists including Marcia Ball, Henry Butler, Jon Cleary, Dr. John, Norah Jones, Ellis Marsalis, John Medeski, Randy Newman and David Torkanowsky. All this and she survived Hurricane Katrina. I will review the show tomorrow. Irma Thomas was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame in 2007. Here's the video of her performance at her induction ceremony.
