Jango Song Of The Day-The Soggy Bottom Boys

Artist:The Soggy Bottom Boys
Song:I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow
Album:O Brother, Where Art Thou?: Original Soundtrack

Film soundtracks have been a big part of the music business since the 50s. Occasionally a soundtrack is so popular that it can singlehandedly create interest in a music genre that most folks would probably never consider. Such is the case with Joel & Ethan Coen's 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? The soundtrack has sold over seven million copies. It became so popular there was even a special concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville which became the documentary Down From The Mountain. The Coens wisely hired T-Bone Burnett to produce the music for the film and he made sure that the music was authentic bluegrass music. Burnett brought in a Who's Who of bluegrass but the key figure was Alison Krauss & Union Station leader Dan Tyminski. Of course Alison also appeared on the album. But Tyminski was behind the creation of The Soggy Bottom Boys. That's the fictional group in the film led by George Clooney's character singing the bluegrass standard I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow. Tyminski is the real lead singer with harmonies by Nashville songwriter Harley Allen and Pat Enright of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Actor Tim Blake Nelson sings lead on The Soggy Bottom Boys recording of In The Jailhouse Now. This recording of I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow won a CMA Award and a Grammy. The soundtrack introduced a lot of newcomers to bluegrass and I suggest you check it out. Here's the video for I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow by The Soggy Bottom Boys.
