Jango Song Of The Day-Mark McGuinn

Artist:Mark McGuinn
Song:Mrs. Steven Rudy
Album:Mark McGuinn

Singer songwriter Mark McGuinn had a top ten country hit with his debut single Mrs. Steven Rudy in 2001. It looked like he was on his way but his record label went bust and he's still on the comeback trail. He was born Aug. 19, 1968 in Greensboro, NC. He started out playing jazz trumpet. After a knee injury ended a potential career as a professional soccer player, he moved to Nashville to become a songwriter. In 2001, he signed with VFR Records. VFR was co-owned by former RCA and Mercury Records exec Harold Shedd. He has worked with Alabama and Reba McEntire among others. Originally the first single was supposed to be That's A Plan. But a Dallas DJ suggested Mrs. Steven Rudy instead. It turned out to be the right decision as it reached #6 on the country charts. McGuinn co-wrote the song with producer Shane Decker. The banjo is played by Wanda Vick of the 80s group Wild Rose. The album did well especially considering it was on an independent label. He also got some attention for the 9/11 tribute song More Beautiful Today which is available only as a download. He also wrote Lonestar's 2001 hit Unusually Unusual. So McGuinn is recording his follow up recording when he learns that VFR went out of business. So with partner Jim Foster, he started Blue Flamingo Records and One Man's Crazy was released in 2006. The album didn't do as well but McGuinn is still around touring and writing songs for others. And Mrs. Steven Rudy is a really good song. Here's the video for Mrs. Steven Rudy by Mark McGuinn.
