Jango Song Of The Day-People's Choice

Artist:People's Choice
Song:Do It Any Way You Wanna
Album:Golden Classics

Do It Any Way You Wanna was the biggest hit for 70s funk band People's Choice. They had some other R & B and dance hits but this is the song most folks will remember. The group was led by Buffalo native Frank Brunson. He was lead singer and keyboard player. Other members were vocalists Valerie Brown & Marc Reed, guitarists Darnell Jones & Johnnie Hightower, bassist Stanley Thomas and drummer David Thomson. They had a top ten R & B hit in 1971 with I Likes To Do It. That got the attention of Philadelphia International Records owners and legendary Philly Soul producers Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. People's Choice recorded the album Boogie Down USA in 1975. The singles didn't seem to catch on unitil the mostly instrumental Do It Any Way You Wanna caught on and topped the R & B and dance charts and reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. There's not much to the song but it was written by Leon Huff. People's Choice continued to do well on the dance charts until they left Philadelphia International for Casablanca. They recorded an album there in 1980 and then an album for Mercury in 1984. This CD from Collectables is the Boogie Down USA album with some B sides added. Brunson couldn't have been very happy with the group being pigeonholed as an instrumental group with chanting because they started out as a funk group. But that's what happens sometimes in the music business. Frank Brunson died on Nov. 24, 2007 at age 78. Here's the video for Do It Any Way You Wanna by People's Choice.
