Jango Song Of The Day-The Rumors

Artists:The Rumors
Song:Hold Me Now
Album:Pebbles Vol. 8: Southern California Pt. 1

Here is yet another very obscure garage band from Southern California that has been kept alive by various artists garage band comps. They only recorded two songs and their record company went out of business in 1965. The leader of The Rumors was lead singer and keyboard player Ben Turner. Drummer Norman Prinsky joined when he was recommended by bassist Larry Scher. They were childhood pals and had both been in The Kool Kats. They played gigs in the Los Angeles area when they were spotted by Gemcor Records owner Bill Bell. He took them into the studio to record Turner's song Hold Me Now. It got some attention when it was used in a McDonalds commercial. But Gemcor went broke and The Rumors split up when the record wasn't successful. It's on Rhino's Nuggets box set but this single CD of Southern California garage bands looks pretty good too. The song deserved to do better. Norman Prinsky is a professor at Augusta State University in Georgia and Larry Scher is a media teacher at Rio Hondo College in California. Here's a pretty good homemade video for Hold Me Now by The Rumors.
