Jango Song Of The Day-Dierks Bentley

Artist:Dierks Bentley
Song:What Was I Thinkin'
Album:Greatest Hits: Every Mile A Memory

What Was I Thinkin' was Dierks Bentley's debut single and first number one country music hit in 2003. He's been very successful in that market but hasn't really crossed over to pop and probably doesn't need to do that. He writes a lot of his own songs with longtime producer Brett Beavers so I expect Bentley to have a long career. He was born Nov. 20, 1975 in Phoenix and after a year attending the Univerity Of Vermont, he moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt and took a job as a researcher at The Nashville Network while he shopped his songs. He released the CD Don't Leave Me In Love independently in 2001 and led to a contract with Capitol Nashville. His major label debut Dierks Bentley was released Aug. 2003 and reached #4 on the Country Album charts and went Platinum. What Was I Thinkin' was the first single. It topped the country singles chart and reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is his biggest pop hit to date. Like a lot of his songs, Bentley co-wrote it with producer Brett Beavers and Canadian singer songwriter Deric Ruttan also gets a songwriting credit. Bentley's subsequent CDs have all reached the top of the country charts. His latest CD Up On The Ridge was released last month but most new fans should check out this comp first as an intro to his music. Up On The Ridge is more of a bluegrass album with guest appearances by Del McCoury and Alison Krauss and it has done very well. Dierks Bentley is married and he and his wife had a daughter in Oct. 2008. Here's the video for What Was I Thinkin' by Dierks Bentley.
