John Williams has written and composed music for some of the most popular films in history including the Star Wars films. He has been nominated for more Oscars than anyone and he has won several Oscars and various other awards and he has also led The Boston Pops for many years. He was born Feb. 8, 1932  in Flushing, NY. His father was drummer for the composer Raymond Scott. Williams moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1948 and attended UCLA and composed and arranged music while in the Air Force. He moved to New York to attend Julliard in 1955 and played piano in clubs. He moved back to Los Angeles and started orchestrating film music and worked with Henry Mancini on much of his music at the time including Peter Gunn. His first film score was for the 1958 B-movie Daddy-O. Williams worked on a lot of TV shows in the 60s including Lost In Space, The Time Tunnel and Land Of The Giants all for producer Irwin Allen. His first Oscar nomination was for the 1967 film Valley Of The Dolls and his first Oscar win was for the 1971 film Fiddler On The Roof. Williams is probably best known for his long associations with Steven Speilberg & George Lucas. Williams won an Oscar for Jaws and then Speilberg recommended him to Lucas. Williams has composed the music for all the Star Wars films including Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back. This 2CD comp from Sony is an excellent intro to Williams' music. John Williams is still composing today. His most recent score was for the 2008 film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and he is currently working on Steven Speilberg's upcoming film The Adventures Of Tintin. Here's The Imperial March by John Williams as it appeared in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back.
