AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Fixx

Artist:The Fixx
Song:One Thing Leads To Another
Album:Ultimate Collection

The British new wave group The Fixx had their biggest success with the 1983 top five hit One Thing Leads To Another. And they had a few other chart singles but that is their most memorable song. They started out in London in 1979. College pals Cy Curnin (lead vocals) and Adam Woods (drums) started The Portraits and placed an ad in the paper to recruit members. They were keyboard player Rupert Greenall, guitarist Tony McGrail and bassist Charlie Barret. They recorded two singles for Ariola Records that went nowhere. McGrail left and was replaced by Jamie West-Oram of The Doll and the band name was changed to The Fix. Their 1981 single Lost Planes got BBC airplay and that led to a contract with MCA Records. Concerned about the name The Fix being associated with drug usage, MCA wanted a name change. So it was changed to The Fixx. Their 1982 debut album Shuttered Room did OK. It was their most successful album in England. Barret left and was briefly replaced by Alfie Agius and later Dan K. Brown. Their 1983 album Reach The Beach reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 200. Saved By Zero reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and One Thing Leads To Another reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their 1985 album Phantoms still did well reaching #19 on the Billboard Hot 200. But The Fixx faded by 1987 and left MCA for RCA for their 1989 album Calm Animals. This Ultimate Collection CD is the best comp available. The general impression of The Fixx is they recorded some good singles but the albums are uneven. Cy Curnin has recorded solo but The Fixx still tours today and have a new CD coming in 2011.
