Big Bad Blog Video Theater-Cat Zingano vs Takayo Hashi

Since I wrote about the behind scenes wrangling for this fight last week, I have to follow it up with the fight video of Cat Zingano vs Takayo Hashi from Saturday night. Normally the technical quality of the video, especially the audio, wouldn't meet my standards so I would pass on it. But I'll make an exception. The fight went pretty much as expected except for the ending. Once upon a time, Takayo Hashi was a very good fighter with world class grappling skills. She has changed to a very ineffective defensive fighting style. Her performance in this fight was very similar to her fight against Tara LaRosa. Clinch, clinch, clinch with no offense. The ref seemed content to let this go because as in Tara's fight, Cat was trying to be aggressive. But she was having difficulty doing anything with Hashi's passive defensiveness. Because Hashi is strong but she's not using her strength to score points. I don't know what she's trying to do. It's a strategy designed to lose a unanimous decision. A fighter can't win with that fighting style. Cat took her down in the first round and again in the third and also landed some punches. She was on her way to a unanimous decision win when Hashi inexplicably wrapped her legs around Cat's body and Cat dropped her on the back of her head for a KO win with about 15 seconds left in the fight. I watched the finish a couple of times and I don't know what Hashi thought she was doing. It was similar to what Sarah Kaufman did to Roxanne Modafferi last summer except Cat didn't lift Hashi. She just dropped her. Cat said afterwards that her next opponent could be Tara LaRosa. Tara has been after her for a while. We'll see. Enjoy the video.
