Nanae Takahashi wins STARDOM World Championship

Nanae Takahashi dives onto Mercedes Martinez
STARDOM packed Korakuen Hall today and crowned Nanae Takahashi as their first world champion. It also doubled as Takahashi's 15th anniversary show. Of course Takahashi's old pal and long time tag team partner Momoe Nakanishi appeared and took part in the Kiss No Sakai reunion with Takahashi, Miho Wakizawa and Kayo Noumi. They sang a little song. Yumiko Hotta and Kumiko Maekawa also appeared. Takahashi and Maekawa joked about hating each other. My big problem with STARDOM is I do not like the concept of building a promotion on the backs of raw rookies likely to stink up the joint on a regular basis. Of course it's also predictable. Anyone who tried to say that anyone but Takahashi would win that title should stop smoking that stuff. The secondary belt title match was between former bikini model and The Next Fuuka Yuzuki Aikawa and Yoshiko. They're trying to sell Yoshiko as a major heel but I think she needs to be less miserable. Aikawa is the chosen one so obviously she won the belt. In the red belt tournament Yoko Bito beat Mika Nagano in one semi final. Then Nanae Takahashi beat Mercedes Martinez in the other semi final. Mercedes is a great wrestler and I don't understand why STARDOM owner Rossy Ogawa would bring her over for one 12 minute match when an epic final would have made a lot more sense. Because Bito is a greenhorn, that makes Takahashi's win in the final very anticlimactic. Takahashi would have won anyway. But Mercedes in the final would have been much better. I will say this. Takahashi wore an all new outfit that is completely different from what she has worn for her entire career. She looks to be in the best shape of her career. No more jokes about her eating habits.
