AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Paul McCartney

Artist:Paul McCartney
Song:Another Day
Album:All The Best

Of course everyone knows who Paul McCartney is. What you may not know is that Another Day was his very first solo hit in 1971. It is frequently credited to Wings because it was on reissues of the album Ram. But Wings was formed after Another Day was released. He was born June 18, 1942 in Liverpool, England and of course McCartney and John Lennon shared credit for most of The Beatles songs. Of course you could tell who actually wrote by who sang lead on the song. When The Beatles split was imminent while Let It Be was being recorded, McCartney and wife Linda recorded his first solo album McCartney at home. The album was released two weeks before the release of Let It Be in Apr. 1970. McCartney also announced that The Beatles had split up though the others were against it. So he got blamed for the split though it has become apparent that they hadn't been getting along for a long time. The album did very well and McCartney released Another Day in Feb. 1971 and it reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wings drummer Denny Seiwell described the song as Eleanor Rigby in New York. The song is upbeat but is about the drudgery of daily life. It was released as a single only and then added to the 1993 reissue of Ram. It's also on comps like All The Best. Much of his back catalog seems to be out of print right now. After Ram was released, McCartney formed Wings with Linda, guitarist Denny Laine and drummer Denny Seiwell. Though subsequent albums were successful commercially, they were critically panned. McCartney got back on the rails with the 1973 album Band On The Run. It didn't seem to matter much if critics liked his music. He had a long string of hits in the 70s and McCartney's success continues to this day. But it all started with Another Day. Here's Paul McCartney performing Another Day in Charlotte, NC 1993.
