AccuRadio Song Of The Day--M-

Artist:-M-
Song:Belleville Rendez-Vous
Album:The Triplets Of Belleville: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

-M- is the stage name for French musician Mathieu Chedid. He is not to be confused with M (Robin Scott) who had a hit with Pop Musik in the 80s. -M- is best known for the Oscar and Grammy nominated song Belleville Rendez-Vous from the fabulous 2004 animated film The Triplets Of Belleville. Mathieu Chedid was born Dec. 21, 1971 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. He is the son of the popular French pop singer Louis Chedid and his grandmother is renowned poet Andree Chedid. He had a few bands as a teen and became an in demand session musician. When he decided to record his first solo CD in 1997, Chedid took the name -M- which is supposed to mean "aime", the French word for love. He also wanted to distinguish himself from his father. When you watch the video, you'll notice he has this goofy hairstyle that will remind you of Grandpa Munster. He has done very well in France. He took a break in 2001 and released a CD of odds and ends in 2003. He was contacted by director Sylvain Chomet to contribute a song to his film The Triplets Of Belleville. -M- performed the song and wrote it with Quebec composer Benoit Charest and his partner Maxime Morin. Belleville Rendez-Vous was nominated for a Grammy and an Oscar. The music in the film is supposed to be a tribute to Django Rheinhart and Le Hot Club de France. There is a brief clip of Django in the video. If you haven't seen The Triplets Of Belleville, you need to see it. It's a wonderful film. -M- continues to have a lot of success in France. His latest CD Mister Mystere was released in 2009. Here's the video for Belleville Rendes-Vous by -M-.
