AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Usher

Artist:Usher
Song:Nice & Slow
Album:My Way

Usher Raymond IV was discovered as a teen and became the biggest crossover R & B stars of the 90s. Nice & Slow was his first number one pop hit in 1997. He has also tried acting but hasn't been as successful in that area. He was born Oct. 14, 1978 in Dallas and moved with his mom to Chattanooga when she remarried. He sang in church and when his family decided he could be a professional singer, they moved to Atlanta as they thought there were better opportunities there. At age 11, Usher joined NuBeginnings and recorded an album with them. His mom pulled him out of the group because, according to her, it was a "bad experience". Then he appeared on Star Search and an A & R rep from LaFace Records arranged an audition with LaFace co-owner Antonio "LA" Reid. Usher signed and his first song was Call Me A Mack from the 1993 film Poetic Justice. His 1994 debut CD Usher was mostly produced by Sean "P Diddy" Combs. It did OK but he hadn't crossed over to pop yet. After Usher graduated from high school, he became friends with producer Jermaine Dupri. Dupri produced most of the songs on the 1997 CD My Way. You Make Me Wanna was the first single and it topped the R & B charts and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nice & Slow did even better. It topped the Billboard hot 100 in Jan. 1998 and was certified Platinum. Nice & Slow was written by Brian and Brandon Casey of the R & B group Jagged Edge. They also sang backup vocals. Usher, Dupri and Dupri's house songwriter Manuel Seal Jr. also got songwriting credits. So now Usher is a big heartthrob. He released a live album in 1999 and got into acting on the TV series Moesha and the film The Faculty. His next CD 8701 was released in 2001. He's still doing very well as his latest CD Raymond v Raymond did very well and I expect his new CD Looking 4 Myself to continue his success. That is out next month. He seems to have put acting on the back burner. Sony hasn't released an Usher comp yet but My Way is available as a budget CD. Usher is still young and he will be a star for a long time. Here's the video for Nice & Slow by Usher. The girl in the video is model Kimora Lee Simmons. This video is not on Youtube.
