AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Wet Wet Wet

Artist:Wet Wet Wet
Song:Love Is All Around
Album:End Of Part One: Their Greatest Hits

The Scottish band Wet Wet Wet were very popular in England. In North America they are best known for their cover of The Troggs' Love Is All Around from the 1994 hit film Four Weddings and a Funeral. The group met while in high school in Clydesdale, Scotland. Bassist Graeme Clark, drummer Tommy Cunningham and keyboard player Neil Mitchell formed Vortex Motion in 1982 with lead singer Mark McLauchlan. They changed the name to Wet Wet Wet after a Scritti Politti song and McLauchlan changed his name to Marti Pellow. They signed with PolyGram in 1985 and scored their first British top ten hit with the 1987 single Wishing I Was Lucky. They had their first number one hit in 1988 with a cover of With A Little Help From My Friends. Their 1994 cover of Love Is All Around was their biggest international hit as it topped the charts worldwide. It reached #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was in the 1994 hit film Four Weddings and a Funeral. The soundtrack is available but expensive so I recommend this Wet Wet Wet comp instead. Wet Wet Wet continued to have success in England but then clashed over songwriting royalties. Up until 1997, the royalties had been split equally four ways. When the band decided to give Cunningham less money, he quit and formed The Sleeping Giants. Pellow left in 1999 to battle a heroin addiction. He began a solo career in 2001. The rest of the band reformed in 2005 adding guitarist Graeme Duffin who had been an advisor of the band for many years. They released the CD Timeless in 2007 and recently announced a return to live performing possibly followed by a tour of England. So I guess there is still a demand of Wet Wet Wet in England though most fans here are probably not familiar with them. Here's the video for Love Is All Around by Wet Wet Wet.
