AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Feist

Artist:Feist
Song:1234
Album:The Reminder

Canadian singer songwriter Leslie Feist started out as a punk rocker. When a doctor told her her voice couldn't handle that kind of music, she changed things up and hit the top ten with the 2007 song 1234. I don't expect her to have that kind of success again but she doesn't need it. She was born Feb. 13, 1976 in Amherst, NS. Her parents are both artists. When they divorced, Leslie moved with her mom and brother to Regina and then Calgary. In 1991, she was lead singer of the punk band Placebo. When she damaged her vocal cords and was forced to rest in 1995, she moved to Toronto. She was in various bands but I think most fans first heard of her as part of Broken Social Scene. Meanwhile she was working on her own music and released the CD Let It Die in 2004. She won two Juno awards. The Reminder was released in Apr. 2007 and was doing well when 1234 was used in an Apple iPod commercial. The song blew up and reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and The Reminder sold over a million copies. The video is quite charming too. 1234 was written by Australian singer songwriter Sally Saltmann who performs as New Buffalo. She gave Feist the song when they met in 2004 and the rest is history. The song made Leslie Feist a huge star. She even got to do Sesame Street. But I don't think Leslie has any illusions about stardom. Though she hasn't had any more hit singles, her latest CD Metals reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 200. So she's doing fine. Here's the video for 1234 by Feist.
