AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Bob Dylan and Friends

Artist:Bob Dylan and Friends
Song:My Back Pages
Album:The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration

This is the kind of tribute concert that can either be a lot of fun for fans and participants or become a major train wreck. This one turned out very well. It was to celebrate Bob Dylan's 30th anniversary as a recording artist. And of course it was filmed for CD and video release. The concert was on Oct. 16, 1992 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show was produced by veteran Columbia Records exec Don DeVito. The first thing he did was hire recording engineer Jeff Rosen to produce the audio and then he hired Saturday Night Live bandleader G.E. Smith to deal with the musicians. And Smith brought in the best backup band in popular music history. That would be Booker T. Jones on organ, Steve Cropper on guitar, Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass and Anton Fig on drums, otherwise known as Booker T. & The MGs. The participants included John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, Stevie Wonder, Lou Reed, Eddie Vedder & Mike McCready, Tracy Chapman, Johnny & June Carter Cash, Willie Nelson, Johnny Winter, Ronnie Wood, Richie Havens, The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rosanne Cash, Shawn Colvin, Neil Young, Chrissie Hynde, Eric Clapton, The O'Jays, The Band, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roger McGuinn, Nanci Griffith, Cissy Houston leading her choir, Jim Keltner, Al Kooper, George Thorogood, Don Was and Reggie Young. My Back Pages was performed at the end of the show right before the finale. It was a top 40 hit for The Byrds so it was appropriate that Roger McGuinn led off followed by Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Dylan and George Harrison. In the video, you can see G.E. Smith directing traffic and you will see Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn and Anton Fig. This was released on 2CDs and reached #40 on the Billboard Hot 200 and was certified Gold. It was released on VHS in a slightly expended version. It's available on DVD in a heavily edited one disc edition. The CD is recommended but not the DVD. Here's the video for My Back Pages from the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration. This particular version  is not on Youtube.
