AccuRadio Song Of The Day-The Sensations

Artist:The Sensations
Song:Let Me In
Album:Philadelphia Doo Wop

I'm sure a lot of folks have heard this song and think the title is Weee-oooo. Let Me In was a top five hit for The Sensations in 1961. The group was from Philadelphia and started out as The Cavaliers in 1954. Yvonne Mills was lead singer and the other members were Tommy Wicks, Alphonso Howell and Hosea Haralson. A doo wop group with a female lead singer was unusual at the time. The Cavaliers recorded for Atlantic's Atco label and Yes Sir That's My Baby and Please Mr. Disc Jockey were top twenty R & B hits in 1956. The Cavaliers split up soon after and Yvonne got married and started a family. Her name was now Yvonne Baker. In 1961, Howell and Phildelphia DJ Kae Williams convinced Yvonne that the group should reform. They added Richard Curtain and Sam Armstrong and were now called The Sensations. They signed with the Chess Records label Argo First they had an R & B hit with their cover of Music, Music, Music. And then Let Me In reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961. Yvonne Baker wrote Let Me In. It turned out to be The Sensations only big hit. You can get it on this various artists comp from Collectables. Yvonne Baker recorded for Cameo-Parkway in the mid-60s and You Didn't Say A Word is a cult classic with soul fans. Here's a video for Let Me In by The Sensations.
