There are four, count 'em, four sax players on this CD. They are Logan Richardson, Gary Thomas, Chris Cheek and Jeremy Viner. Thomas has been around since the 80s and has played with Miles Davis and Jack DeJohnette. Cheek plays on a lot of sessions. Richardson and Viner are young guys. Chris Tordini plays bass and Tyshawn Sorey is on drums. He is a member of Dave Douglas & Nomad. Elder also plays a suite of twin piano compositions with Japanese composer Aya Nishina. To date this is the only CD Elder has released under his own name. But he also leads the bands 1in2 with violinist Blanca Cecilia and Foldersnacks. Both bands have released CDs. He has also played on CDs by Scott Tixier, Sara Elizabeth Charles and Jason Consolacion and is working on upcoming CDs by Matt Parker, Tony Middleton and Melody Sweets and the Candy Shop Boys. Jesse Elder will be of interest to progressive jazz fans. Here's Jesse Elder performing Solar Plexus at Barge Music Apr. 9, 2009.
