AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Junkhouse

Artist:Junkhouse
Song:Out Of My Head
Album:Strays

Junkhouse had some success in the mid-90s in their native Canada. Attempts to break the US market were unsuccessful. They were from Hamilton, ON. Lead singer and guitarist Tom Wilson had a band in the late 80s called Florida Razors. They were a new wave rockabilly band. When they split up, he formed Junkhouse with Dan Achen on guitar, Russ Wilson on bass and Ray Farrugia on drums. They went on tour with the popular band Crash Vegas and this led to a record deal with Sony. Strays was their debut CD in 1993 and Out Of My Head was the first single. The video became popular on MuchMusic and Junkhouse went on tour with Soul Asylum. The CD was produced by veteran Canadian producer Malcolm Burn and most of the songs including Out Of My Head were written by Curtis "Sauce" Wilson of the R & B group Somethin' For The People. Junkhouse was probably too offbeat to become really popular. But they did OK in Canada. They were featured in the popular Canadian TV series Due South. Strays is available as a budget CD. Junkhouse's 1995 CD Birthday Boy featured Burned Out Car featuring Sarah McLachlan. But the band started to have problems. Russ Wilson left in 1996 and was replaced by Grant Marshall. Tom Wilson recorded with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Former Crash Vegas guitarist Colin Cripps joined Junkhouse to keep them together. They split up after the 1997 CD Fuzz. Tom Wilson had a lot of success with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. His current band is LeE HARVeY OsMOND. Dan Achen opened a recording studio in Hamilton. His niece Leslie Feist  and Alexisonfire were among those who recorded there. Achen died of a heart attack while playing hockey on Mar. 15, 2010. Here's the video for Out Of My Head by Junkhouse.
