AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Shania Twain

Artist:Shania Twain
Song:You're Still The One
Album:Greatest Hits

Shania Twain was probably the most popular female country music artist of the 90s. And her 1997 album Come On Over is the biggest selling album by a female ever. Unlike Reba McEntire, Shania crossed over to pop in a big way. You're Still The One is her biggest hit. She was born Eileen Edwards Aug. 28, 1965 in Windsor, ON. When her parents divorced, her mom moved to the northern Ontario city of Timmins and married Jerry Twain. So now she was Eileen Twain. She started performing and writing as a teen and appeared on The Tommy Hunter Show at age 13. Though there was interest in Eileen becoming a country singer, she wanted to be a rock singer. And that prevented her from getting a record deal in the 80s. After her parents died in a 1987 car accident, Eileen moved with her siblings to Huntsville and took a singing job at the nearby Deerhurst Resort. While there, she named herself Shania after the resort hairdresser. By the early 90s, she sent out demos and got a deal with Mercury Records. Her 1993 debut CD did OK and she had a minor hit with What Made You Say That. But Shania only wrote one song on the album and the album was a standard Nashville production. This all changed when producer Robert "Mutt" Lange expressed interest in working with her. He had never produced country music but wanted to. He brought two things to the table. The first was the ability to write songs with Shania. The second was adding a rock backbeat to her records. Any Man Of Mine was her first number one country hit. But her 1997 CD Come On Over just blew up and crossed over to pop. You're Still The One reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is her biggest hit to date. A lot of folks say that her sex appeal in her videos was a big factor in Shania's success. It was a factor. But if you listen to the difference in her first record to her second record, the sound is completely different. So I think Lange should get a lot of credit for her success. Shania's 2002 CD Up! was successful but not as successful as Come On Over. You can get all her hits on this budget comp. Since then Shania hasn't done much musically. She divorced Lange after he had an affair with Shania's best friend. Then Shania married her best friend's husband. There was talk that Shania didn't want to sing anymore. She is currently appearing in her own show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. But I see nothing about Shania possibly recording a new CD. Here's the video for You're Still The One by Shania Twain.
