AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Tripping Daisy

Artist:Tripping Daisy
Song:I Got A Girl
Album:I Am An Elastic Firecracker

The psychedelic influenced band Tripping Daisy had their biggest success with the 1995 single I Got A Girl. The band ended when guitarist Wes Berggren died from a 1999 drug overdose. Several members of Tripping Daisy went on to form Polyphonic Spree. Tripping Daisy is from Dallas led by lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Tim DeLaughter. Other original members were Wes Berggren on guitar, Mark Pirro on bass and Jeff Bouck on drums. They were formed in 1991. Bouck was replaced by Bryan Wakeland in 1992. Tripping Daisy started out playing gigs in Dallas and got some local radio airplay. They released the album Bill independently in 1992 and this led to a contact with Island Records. The 1995 CD I Am An Elastic Firecracker was their major label debut. The video for I Got A Girl got extensive play on MTV and reached #6 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. After the tour to support I Am an Elastic Firecracker, Wakeland was replaced first by Mitch Marine and then by Ben Curtis for the 1998 CD Jesus Hits Like The Atom Bomb. This album did not sell and it looked like Island was going to drop Tripping Daisy. Then Wes Berggren died of a drug overdose on Oct. 27, 1999 at age 28. Tripping Daisy had already recorded a new album. But DeLaughter disbanded the band anyway and left Island. The final CD was released independently. Delaughter and Pirro formed Polyphonic Spree in 2000 and that band is still around. Ben Curtis is a member of School Of Seven Bells. Delaughter plans to release the Tripping Daisy CDs on his own label. Right now they aren't available.  Here's the video for I Got A Girl by Tripping Daisy.
