Most folks should be familiar with French film star Brigitte Bardot as a major sex symbol in the 50s and 60s. But you probably don't know that she had a significant singing career in the 60s especially after she met legendary bad boy Serge Gainsbourg. Harley Davidson was one of her biggest hits in 1968. Brigitte's music is standard Ye Ye and her voice will remind you of a mature France Gall. She was born Sept. 28, 1934 in Paris. Brigitte started out as a ballet dancer and turned to modelling. Roger Vadim spotted her in a magazine. They married and though she first appeared in films in 1952, Vadim's 1956 film And God Created Woman was the film that made her a sex symbol. She divorced Vadim in 1957. She married actor Jacques Charrier in 1959. They starred in Babette Goes To War. As an actress, it was hard for her to live down the sexy image. This would frustrate her and she threatened to quit in the early 60s. Meanwhile she got interested in singing and recorded for Philips in the early 60s. But it wasn't until she met Serge Gainsbourg in 1965 that she had success. Her hits in France included Contact, Comic Strip and her duet with Gainsbourg Bonnie and Clyde. She also had a TV variety show at the time. Harley Davidson is about a girl and her motorcycle. She doesn't need anyone as long as she has her Harley Davidson. It's a typical Gainsbourg song with the usual sexual overtones. Brigitte recorded Je T'aime with Gainsbourg but she was concerned that it was too overtly sexual so she begged him not to release it. Gainsbourg recorded the song with Jane Birkin and it was a huge hit. You can get that and all of Brigitte's hits on this comp. Be sure to find the version with 20 tracks. Fans of Ye Ye will enjoy it. Brigitte and Gainsbourg split up. She last recorded in 1970. And she retired from films in 1973. These days she is an animal rights activist but is reclusive otherwise.
