AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Tennis

Artist:Tennis
Song:Marathon
Album:Cape Dory

Cape Dory was the 2011 breakthrough CD for the husband wife duo Tennis. The kind of music they make is sometimes described as Twee Pop. I see them doing well on tour but not a big commercial success. Lead singer Alaina Moore and guitarist Patrick Riley met while studying philosophy in college in Denver. They bought a sailboat and spent seven months sailing along the Eastern Seaboard. When they returned to Denver, they started making music. The name Tennis is an inside joke regarding Riley playing on the college tennis team. After releasing a couple of independent singles, Tennis signed with Fat Possum Records. Cape Dory was released Jan. 2011. Though the CD is less than a half hour long, it was critically acclaimed. Spinner named it one of the best albums of 2011. Tennis added drummer James Barone for tours. Their second CD Young & Old was released Feb. 2012 and was produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys. Your opinion of the band will depend on your opinion of Alaina Moore's singing voice. It's not for everyone but I think she has potential. The music is obviously influenced by 60s pop and they have released a cover of The Zombies' Tell Her No as a digital download. My only beef is they need to record longer CDs. Here's Tennis performing Marathon on eTown Radio in Elizabethtown, KY.
