AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Peter Cincotti

Artist:Peter Cincotti
Song:He's Watching
Album:On The Moon

Peter Cincotti started out as a jazz singer and has veered into pop territory with his more recent CDs. This was due to a change in record companies and producer. On The Moon is one of his earlier jazz CDs. He was born July 11, 1983 in New York City. His grandmother gave him a toy piano at age three and he started taking piano lessons at age five. At age seven, Harry Connick Jr. spotted him and had Cincotti sit in on a show in Atlantic City. Cincotti studied classical piano at the Manhattan School of Music and also studied with Ellis Marsalis. At age 12, he started playing New York clubs. Then he toured with Connick in 1999. He won a piano competition at the 2000 Montreux Jazz Festival and in 2001 appeared in the off-Broadway show Our Sinatra. Cincotti was going to attend Columbia University but instead signed with Concord Records and legendary producer Phil Ramone. On his 2003 CD Peter Cincotti, he recorded mostly standards. On his 2004 CD On The Moon, Cincotti wrote more of his own songs including He's Watching. He also worked with some of New York's top jazz musicians including Scott Kreitzer on tenor sax, Wycliffe Gordon on trombone, Sam Yahel on organ, Jeff Mironov on guitar and Kenny Washington on drums. The CD reached #2 on the Top Jazz Albums chart. Then he leaves Concord for David Foster's 143 Records distributed by Warners. And the 2008 CD East Of Angel Town is more of a pop rock CD. It does well because of course Cincotti built a fanbase with his previous album. But East Of Angel Town is criticized as a bit of a sellout to pop. And with his 2012 CD Metropolis, Cincotti goes even farther into pop music including the dreaded dance pop. He's not recording jazz standards anymore. Those who liked his jazz CDs may not like this direction. He also wrote the musical How Deep Is The Ocean? with his sister Pia and it played New York. Here's Peter Cincotti performing He's Watching from the 2004 DVD Live In New York.
