Robert Westenberg is a musical theater performer best known for his acclaimed performance in the original production of the Stephen Sondheim show Into The Woods in 1987. Currently he lives in St. Louis and produces musical theater there. He was born Oct. 26, 1953 in Miami, FL and grew up in Fresno, CA. He made his Broadway debut in the 1983 revival of Zorba. But Into The Woods was Westenberg's biggest role on Broadway. The show intertwines several fairy tales. Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason were the stars. Kim Crosby played Cinderella. Westenberg played Prince Charming in Cinderella and The Wolf in Little Red Riding Hood. Hello, Little Girl is his big song where he is stalking Little Red Riding Hood played by Danielle Ferland. Westenberg is married to Kim Crosby. Into The Woods was very successful. It opened on Nov. 5, 1987 and ran for almost two years. It won three Tonys including Best Original Score. Westenberg was nominated for a Tony but did not win. The original cast album is available as a budget CD. Westenberg replaced Mandy Patinkin in the Broadway show Sunday In The Park With George and also appeared in the 1991 show The Secret Garden. In 1989, Westenberg was in the daytime soap One Life To Live for a year. He's done some film and TV but in the 90s he appeared in Broadway revival musicals like Abe Lincoln In Illinois, Company and 1776. Westenberg and his family moved to St. Louis in 1999 and has produced several shows for The Municipal Theater Association of St. Louis. He was in the 2002 national touring production of The Full Monty. Westenberg, Crosby and their three children live in Springfield, MO and he is the Chair of the Theater Department at Drury University in Springfield.
