AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Taken By Trees

Artist:Taken By Trees
Song:To Lose Someone
Album:East Of Eden

Victoria Bergsman is best known as the lead singer of the popular Swedish group The Concretes. When she left The Concretes in 2006, she took the name Taken By Trees and has recorded three CDs. She was born May 7, 1977 in Sweden. The Concretes were formed in 1995. One of their songs was used in a Target commercial and they gained a following in the US. Victoria left The Concretes in 2006. She felt the band had become too much of a business and wasn't fun anymore. After performing guest vocals on the 2006 Peter Bjorn and John hit Young Folks, she started recording as Taken By Trees. It's not really a band. She brings in musicians she wants to work with and I guess she wants to be anonymous. We see a lot of solo artists hiding behind band names these days. Victoria signed with Rough Trade Records and her 2007 debut CD Open Field was produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John. For the 2009 CD East Of Eden, Victoria and producer Dan Lissvik of the group Studio went to Pakistan to work with local musicians. Sain Muhammad Ali appears on To Lose Someone. Certainly this is not commercial music. But Victoria has a following from The Concretes and Young Folks and she doesn't seem to want to be a star anyway. For her more recent CD Other Worlds, Victoria signed with Secretly Canadian Records. She recorded it in Hawaii with producer Henning Furst. Recording engineer Andreas Soderstrom has worked on all the Taken By Trees CDs and she seems to depend on him to get the sound she wants. I think fans who like bands like Camera Obscura should check out Taken By Trees. Here is Taken By Trees with El Perro del Mar performing To Lose Someone on NPR radio station KCRW in Los Angeles Feb. 2010. NPR is one of the best places to discover new music and they have been a big Taken By Trees supporter.
