AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Toby Keith

Artist:Toby Keith f/Willie Nelson
Song:Beer For My Horses
Album:35 Biggest Hits

Toby Keith was doing just fine as a new age honky tonk singer when the 2002 song Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American) created a lot of controversy and got him mainstream attention. Beer For My Horses was the next single and was an even bigger hit. Today his music isn't as popular as it once was but Keith's other business ventures have made him a multi millionaire. He was born Toby Keith Covel July 8, 1961 in Clinton, OK. He spent summers with his grandmother in Fort Smith, AR and that's where he went to local clubs and got interested in music. Keith had a part time band while working in the oil fields. When the oil industry went into a decline, he started taking music more seriously. He moved to Nashville in 1990 and a demo got the attention of veteran Mercury Records producer Harold Shedd. His first few albums did OK but corporate mergers at Universal soured Keith and after Mercury rejected some of his recordings, he left for DreamWorks Records in 1998. Keith's first number one country hit How Do You Like Me Now was rejected by Mercury. It topped the chart for five weeks in 1999. The success continued but Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue crossed Keith over to the mainstream in 2002. He recorded Beer For My Horses with Willie Nelson. It was even bigger. It topped the country charts for six weeks. Keith wrote the song with his frequent songwriting partner Scotty Emerick and he even turned Beer For My Horses into a 2008 movie. This 2CD comp should be perfect for most listeners. When DreamWorks Records closed in 2005, Keith started his own label Show Dog and it has become one of the top labels in Nashville. Though Keith's recent CD sales have faded, he has been very successful with his other businesses like Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant chain. And he's still a big concert draw. In July, Keith appeared on the cover of Forbes Magazine as "Country Music's $500 Milion Man". That says it all. Here's the video for Beer For My Horses by Toby Keith featuring Willie Nelson. The actor playing their partner and appearing in drag is Corin Nemec.
