AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Lauryn Hill

Artist:Lauryn Hill
Song:Doo Wop (That Thing)
Album:The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill

Back in 1998 when she was riding high with the number one hit Doo Wop, Lauryn Hill was everyone's pick to be the next big music star. But she needed to produce new music and more CDs and she chose not to do that. Believe it or not, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is her only full length studio album. She records but chooses not to release much of it. She was born May 26, 1975 in East Orange, NJ. While still in high school, she joined The Fugees with Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean. She also got into acting. She was a regular on the daytime soap As The World Turns and she appeared in the 1993 film Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit. The Fugees released two albums after signing with Columbia Records in 1993. The 1996 album The Score was very successful. But they split in 1997. Jean blamed the split on his tumultuous romantic relationship with Hill. This was complicated when she met and began a relationship with Bob Marley's son Rohan Marley. They have six kids together. She recorded The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill in Jamaica. The album was a huge success and Doo Wop topped the charts. Lauryn wrote all the songs on the album. So obviously she's a huge talent. But she was sued by musicians who played on the album claiming they were not properly credited for their work. The lawsuit was settled out of court for a reported $5M. But it also appears the lawsuit soured Lauryn Hill on the music business and she went into seclusion. She taped an MTV Unplugged special in 2001 that was released on CD but it was criticized as hard to listen to. The Fugees reunited in 2004 and toured in 2005. But a planned album never happened. Both Michel and Jean blamed Hill's diva behaviour. Lauryn Hill continues to tour. Occasionally there are reports she is recording new music. But except for the occasional single, nothing is ever released. Marley says she has recorded plenty of music. So maybe she is afraid of criticism if the music isn't up to perceived standards. In 2013, Lauryn Hill spent three months in prison for tax evasion. And she is beginning a new tour this month. Will she ever release another album? That's the big question. Here's the video for Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill.
