AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Angelique Kidjo

Artist:Angelique Kidjo f/Ziggy Marley
Song:Sedjedo
Album:Djin Djin

Angelique Kidjo is a global music icon. But she's not a mainstream artist because most of her music is not in English. But her albums seem to attract mainstream singers and musicians. The 2007 CD Djin Djin was important for Angelique because she left Columbia Records for Razor & Tie. And it would be her first CD since 2004. Angelique normally writes all of her songs with husband Jean Hebrail and she has worked with the same band for years. So the first thing they did was hire a big name producer. Tony Visconti has been around for years. He is best known for producing Ziggy Stardust era David Bowie albums. Guest artists include Alicia Keys, Branford Marsalis, Peter Gabriel, Amadou & Mariam, Carlos Santana and Josh Groban. Sedjedo features Ziggy Marley who of course is Bob Marley's son and has had his own successful career. Djin Djin turned out to be Angelique's most successful album to date. It even charted on the Billboard Hot 200. And it won Best Contemporary World Music Album at the 2008 Grammys. Angelique recorded three albums for Razor & Tie. Her latest CD Eve was released Jan. 2014 on 429 Records. Angelique Kidjo isn't on tour right now. But she will star in November at Carnegie Hall in New York City in Mama Africa which is a tribute to Miriam Makeba. I have a feeling this will be taped for CD and DVD release. Here's Angelique Kidjo featuring Ziggy Marley performing Sedjedo at some sort of Ruby Dee tribute.
