AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Dianne Reeves

Artist:Dianne Reeves
Song:Christmas Waltz
Album:Christmas Time Is Here

So if you're going to buy a Christmas CD, you might as well buy one by one of today's great jazz singers. I have been a Dianne Reeves fan since the early 80s. She's from Denver. Trumpet legend Clark Terry and her cousin George Duke got her started and she recorded for Blue Note from 1987 to 2005. Christmas Time Is Here was released in 2004 around the time that Dianne was working on the George Clooney film Good Night and Good Luck. She records Christmas standards in her own style. So even Dianne Reeves fans should enjoy the CD just for the music. The Christmas Waltz was written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne for Frank Sinatra. It was the B-side of Sinatra's 1954 recording of White Christmas. Sinatra later recorded it on his 1957 album A Jolly Christmas From Frank Sinatra. The song was never a hit but it has been recorded by many singers including Peggy Lee, Mel Torme and Harry Connick Jr. who charted with his 2003 recording of Christmas Waltz. Dianne produced Christmas Time Is Here with long time pianist Peter Martin. Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo plays the guitar solo. Other musicians are Steve Wilson on sax, Joe Locke on vibes, Reuben Rogers on bass, Gregory Hutchinson on drums and Munyungo Jackson on percussion. It's available as a budget CD. Dianne Reeves currently records for Concord. Her latest CD Beautiful Life was released Feb. 2014. Here's a video for Christmas Waltz by Dianne Reeves.
