AccuRadio Song Of The Day-Missing Persons

Artist:Missing Persons
Song:Mental Hopscotch
Album:The Best Of Missing Persons

Missing Persons never had a big hit single but they had some success in the early MTV days because of their videos and lead singer Dale Bozzio's sex appeal. She worked at the Boston Playboy Club in 1975. Hugh Hefner offered her a job at The Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles. Dale wanted to pursue acting. She met Frank Zappa when he played Boston and he hired her as a vocalist and brought her out to Los Angeles to work on Joe's Garage. Terry Bozzio was Zappa's drummer and the two married in 1979. They formed Missing Persons with Zappa guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, bassist Patrick O'Hearn and keyboard player Chuck Wild. Missing Persons released an EP independently which included Mental Hopscotch. It led to a deal with Capitol Records and the EP was rereleased in 1982. Their first full length album Spring Session M was released in Oct. 1982. The album was certified Gold despite the lack of a hit single. But their videos were in heavy rotation on MTV. Missing Persons recorded two more albums. Both were unsuccessful and Capitol was unhappy with them. Also, Dale and Terry weren't getting along and their marriage and the band ended in 1986. This comp is a good intro to their music. Dale Bozzio had modest solo success in 1988. Terry Bozzio went to work as a session musician and still does that today. So did Patrick O'Hearn and Chuck Wild. Warren Cuccurullo replaced Andy Taylor in Duran Duran and was a member through the 90s. After leaving Duran Duran in 2001, he formed a new version of Missing Persons with Dale Bozzio. That didn't work but they tried a couple of more times. They actually toured briefly in 2011 but according to Cuccurullo, Dale's weird behaviour scuttled the whole thing. Here's the video for Mental Hopscotch by Missing Persons.
